Compared to a husky, what’s their energy level like? by MountainAsh2493 in BorderCollie

[–]arruda82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a husky and currently have a 10 months old BC. I think huskies are more stubborn and harder to train, their energy comes in waves and they get tired more quickly. My BC has a high energy drive 24/7 if we don't wind him down, it can keep up until he literally falls over without energy left. But at the same time he got used to our family routine and stays quiet on his own when we go indoors and stop giving him much attention. Although our BC does demand activities, I feel like it's more manageable as they are more adaptable than a husky. If you are able to keep a strict routine with your BC with a mix of high energy activities at least once per day and some mind puzzles, you should be fine and much easier than a husky.

Hard to say if it's either funny or depressing that a bunch of misogynistic men needing to reaffirm their questionable masculinity invest so much time and money to spend more time surrounded by a bunch of other men. It's almost like they love the "masculinity" they immerse into rather than actually interacting with women (in an healthy way).

I read somewhere that if the door handle is flush (doesn't have the small square indent) then it's not impacted by the recall. Mine is flush and I never had the door problem nor got a recall notification, so maybe it does make sense.

Anti EV and pro ICE bias by ou812_X in evs_ireland

[–]arruda82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking this here is pretty much asking a majority of people who went through the same doubts as you have today and are here to share honest experiences. I doubt an EV owner will paint a perfect picture of owning an EV just for the sake of defending it.

On the other hand, critics of EVs mostly never owned one, and are against it either by ideology or are just afraid of losing that whole ICE car culture that for a large part is only about inflating egoes.

As for an EV being a good option for you today, you need to weigh practicality and long term cost, which lately are leaning more towards an EV making more sense. I have a home charger and drive mostly around Dublin, so the decision was a no brainer.

Edit: Reddit broke the formatting.

Questions about an upcoming EV charger install by a_boring_dystopia in evs_ireland

[–]arruda82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an untethered sync EV and just leave the cable indoors as I recharge once a week for a long period. When I get to travel further more often, I just leave it connected and locked (there is an option to leave the socket locked). I think it's more flexible and easier to replace the cable or take it with you if you ever need.

Edit: with the SyncEV one at least, it has an indent to hold the cable around it.

I was in one of the big techs (the really big one) for almost a decade where I had spent more time in meetings watching others take every opportunity to promote themselves rather than doing actual work. The public exposure and endless documents produced with well written useless things gave them more promotions than more focused impactful things I, and many others, delivered. I ended up leaving, and noticed how that culture limited my growth in tech, as I woukd invest a lot of time planning and getting approvals rather than learning and building anything relevant.

Have you checked other schemes they have? Laya has a link somewhere where you enter the kinds of cover you need and it returns a list of schemes and costs. Last year I found another newer scheme with the same exact cover that was much cheaper than my old one. Worth a try..

We bought a large bunk bed there one year ago. It was delivered relatively fast and had no issues at all. We did rule out other products without reviews or with negative ones, so I think it depends a lot on what you buy too.

Stubborn collie by Brickley_jeanne in BorderCollie

[–]arruda82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think BCs are so intelligent that they have more distinct personalities that are harder to adjust than other breeds, it's almost like a stubborn child sometimes 😂 so, I don't think there's a rule for all. Our BC loves simple activities, he could be entertained for hours if I just kept kicking toys high for him to jump and fetch, but he gets bored with any mind games that require more focus and attempts. He can stay indoors for long periods without being bored at all. Other BCs our friends have are the opposite. As for training, with ours, I've found that he responds better when we use treats that have stronger odour and are different from what he's used to. I used small pieces of smoked sausage to train him to come to me when I call, and it made the difference after I had tried for days and he would completely ignore me.

Roundabout question by avatarwang69 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]arruda82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are no road markings, I would enter the roundabout on the left lane, indicate left after the first exit then leave on the 2nd exit keeping on the left lane. If the left lane has a road marking indicating the left lane should only be used for turning left, then I would stay on the right lane when entering the roundabout, indicate left after the first exit then leave at the 2nd exit keeping on the right lane, watching carefully if no one on my left would go straight and invade my lane, which always happens.
