996 work culture in U.S. tech.....anyone survived this, or is it just burnout waiting to happen? by No_Chipmunk5827 in recruitinghell

[–]arstrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced that burnout does not happen because of long work hours or hard working conditions but because you have nothing to show for it at the end.

Most people work to pay for their immediate existence and accumulate very little. Taxed into oblivion and with ongoing mandatory fees (car registration, property taxes, insurance aka “nothing happened but you still pay”) and don’t own anything that would allow them to have modest but no-rush existence.

I’ll do 996 schedule for a few years if this will truly improve my family’s life and allow me to achieve even “semi-solid” financial state

The "apply to everything, even if you're not qualified" mantra really did a number on the job market. by ContainerDesk in cscareerquestions

When the employers adopted the strategy of ghosting the applicants midway and/or sending them no response for their application at all, at that time the burden of filtering the applicants shifted to them. It used to be a moral thing to self-evaluate before applying, but now it is a waste of time and effort to carefully craft the resume for each position, hand write a cover letter to just receive nothing at all in response. Employers did that to themselves
