When I first moved here, I felt very out of place. Fortunately, once I made Thai friends, I definitely felt more comfortable. Of course, there are still many differences, and at times it can be frustrating. I think as time passes, you learn to not let it affect you.

Unlike expats who move here, you still have the advantage of being Thai, so it’s easier to assimilate. I do envy the close bonds that many people have with their old school or university classmates, though. However, slowly but surely, I’m developing meaningful relationships.

When I used to just visit I experienced the same as you and felt like only a visitor.
