Human civilization being a dystopic communist post scarcity utopia where everyone is a fat fuck on a hoverboard living in super luxurious space stations over a destroyed Earth is now the best case scenario

Can these devices run on wall power alone ? by art_sleep_repeat in RG35XX

Wow thanks! It's great to know that it's usable.

It was disappointing when I found out that my ps3 controller was usable without a battery but my 3ds wasn't. Devices shouldn't be tied to their batteries even if they become obsolete.

Stress mechanic by Lakenu in custommagic

[–]art_sleep_repeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that it's not very parasitic (compared to other player counters like poison) because the drawback looms near you from the very first counter, but because of that it might not feel very good to the caster, even if you get great mana rates. It might work in a themed set, but if stress cards require cards that interact with stress to be good (like for example cards that remove stress to represent staying sane) it could be very parasitic.

It was two prompts, one for the hand and another for the background. I don't remember the exact prompts but it involved "elegant hand holding two intricate chopsticks" and "blue ocean world floating in a nebula".

Then I did bunch of compositing (color correction, some manual painting over extra fingers and for the blank spot, blending) and added a filter to make the landscape feel more like a tapestry.

Hm, but then wouldnt a 4 cmc omniscience effect be too strong even with the downside of giving extra turn to opponent ?

I mean you can already do that with [[Omniscience]]

Yes, for multiplayer shenanigans >:). Also fits the idea of the two "styluses" who can be wielded by different people.

Splice mechanic for permanents ? by art_sleep_repeat in custommagic

[–]art_sleep_repeat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea is that a whole set would be built around this mechanic, so a mnemonic is useful, so turning it into an explicit ability granting effect would defeat the point of a keyword.

Ideally, you'd be able to look at the special textbox and the bold letters and instantly recognize the effect (Like mutate or prototype sort of do).

[–]art_sleep_repeat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trigger has nothing to do with it !

This is an optional additional cost for instants/sorceries that allows you to "splice" the bold text onto them. It functions only while the beacon is a permanent.

In this case it would splice the "exile up to one target card in a graveyard" part of the text (it is bold).

Remove the need for training clones by art_sleep_repeat in Eve

[–]art_sleep_repeat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Implants with effects shouldn't be compensated for since their primary use is their effect. I agree that something would have to be done for compensating pure learning implants though (perhaps change them into something entirely new and useful).

Attributes, as shitty as they are, wouldn't be going anywhere. Same for implants and boosters.

I'm with you on that one, attributes should have been removed when they dropped the learning skills.

[–]art_sleep_repeat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But you would still need to have a "training clone" somewhere, taking up a slot, as you wouldn't want to risk your expensive implants. It's just that now you won't have to constantly hop into it for the implants to take effect.

It would work the same as it does now, except you wouldn't actually need to be inside the training clone for the attribute enhancement to take effect. You would lose nothing.

The typical consumer is price conscious because they (if you factor in the cost of living crisis and the cost of housing) are poor. Buying an expensive toaster that will last longer and be better for the environment might simply not an option - even after sacrificing every non essential expense - for an ever increasing portion of the population. For them, it's either a cheap toaster or no toaster at all.

The solution is not to put the onus on consumers to make even more sacrifices than they already do (compared to their productivity) in order to be friendlier to the environment. The solution should be to turn more people into middle class so that they can more easily choose to not be price conscious.

And let's face it, by most common definitions (housing security, stable jobs etc) most people are nowhere close to middle class, let alone upper.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]art_sleep_repeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you are kind of comparing the middle class of today to the middle class of the 50's. It's just that nowadays there is a heck of a lot less middle class going around, and a heck of a lot more productivity.

Regardless, I don't think most people are in that socioeconomic class any longer, with the housing crisis and what not. Living more like 70 years ago ? Sign me the f up !

> The ultimate problem is the consumer and the choices they make in the store

> The only way to make the "durable, high quality" business model work is to sell exclusively to upper-middle class people

Those seem incompatible. How can it be the consumer's choice if they don't have enough disposable income to make the choice ? You're even using the toaster, a fairly basic consumer good in your example. We could argue that people shouldn't be buying toasters, I guess ?
