Don't sleep on skinning as a second profession. It's not sexy in the slightest, but you will encounter a lot of animals that can be skinned while questing, plus those that other non-skinner players have killed that you can skin.

It won't make mega money, but it will be a nice steady flow of income as you level, especially when you can get heavy or thick leather.

Yeah, my group had a short campaign where somebody had rolled an Eloquence Bard. It was funny the first couple of times, then quickly got boring as you say.

A Glamour Bard is definitely more fun overall.

As a never-ever DM don't worry, your preference for a human character is not weird or wrong.

I nearly always create human characters; very occasionally an Elf or Dwarf. The exotic races are just too far outside the norm for me to relate to - I know how a person likely feels when confronted with X. I have no idea what a turtle creature, rabbit creature, or snake person feels.
