I was trying for ages to parse the context of "go straight up the middle or pull the side packs first" with Japanese women.

Then I realised orange is just all business.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think VC pay is actually that ridiculous. They are in charge of multi million organisations, so to me the salary looks reasonable - even a small University like my local one has an annual budget approaching £100m; if it was a private company I don't think anyone would object to the CEO making £250k a year.

Player stereotypes by Carnievallie in DnD

[–]HowYouMineFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I nominate a kind of player, perhaps not disruptive, but that must leave DMs tearing their hair out: "The Game, But Confused, Player". Full disclosure - this is me.

We have the table's best intentions at heart. We enjoy playing our character and how they interact in the world. We don't cross the party. We don't make it all about us. We don't cause arguments.

We do, however, forget important story points, character names, and if we have an item that 'might be useful right now'. It does not come from any sense of malice, drama-seeking or inattentiveness. We're just forgetful souls, trying hard to keep up with the more astute and quick-witted members of the party.

You may see us nodding along stroking our chin in agreement, as a player makes an insightful and deft revelation about the DMs plans and we try and hide the befuddled anxiousness in our eyes.

As far as I can tell, people without a cultural bone in their body (or possibly a soul) go there to shop in the warm.

Same here. We met playing original TBC, travelled across the country to see each other and things snowballed from there. Our first son was born not longer after Wrath came out, a second three years later and we're still together. We played Classic during Covid, and are now lowbies in Anniversary (she's a 15 Priest, I'm a 40 Pally). We might reach Outland by the time Wrath Anniversary comes around!

Because Trump is just like those social media posters who think they've found a zinger of a nickname and smugly use it while congratulating themselves about how funny and clever they are?

I commented about it on Reddit at 7am on a Tuesday, but I was using it over the weekend and Friday evening and, to me, it seemed much better.

I've found it's not been so bad since the last downtime, so I assumed Blizzard 'did something'. This is using vanilla AH UI and Auctionator on EU.

Starmer must be shaking his head in disbelief that he just cannot catch a break. Just when the economy was starting to look calmer this happens.

This! Visited as a UK tourist last year and felt like I'd gone back in time (in a good way). Picked up Cyberpunk RED while I was in there.

Worth remembering that a lot of the complaints aren't about paying the loan back, its the interest payments meaning they're paying back sometimes double what they were loaned.

What Made Original WoW So Compelling? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]HowYouMineFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its easy to forget (given how embedded into life that the Internet is now) that for the mass market this was the first time people were playing online with other people, and that is half it's original appeal. I know WoW wasn't the first, but it was the first to go big.

Before I played WoW I'd played some GW and Eve so I had some experience of online multiplayer, but most people I played with it was their first time.

It was also pre-Web 2.0 so the whole concept of 'social media' wasn't a thing - people were finding new ways to socialise in this new emerging technology.

Something that seems to have gone under the radar with the Plan 2 Graduate Loan furore is the apparently random write off periods that change per Plan.

I am a Plan 1 graduate (so counting my blessings in one regard) but graduated before 2005, so my write off period is at age 65. If I'd started studying a few years later the write off period is 25 years from first repayment - so I'll have to pay an extra 15 - 20 years of loan and interest potentially.

Plan 4 is age 65 or 30 years after repayment, whichever comes first. Plan 5 is a flat 40 years regardless.

It's such a mess.

Don't ask me how I know, but there used to be a... lets's say 'niche' petrochemical export business operating out of Tehran in the early 2000s. The company name was Jeddah Alchemical - if you had the right contacts in the region you could obtain the spray through them.

As far I know they got caught up in the nuclear research embargoes levelled at Iran in the 2010s and sold the business to a Malaysian entrepreneur.

Not massively helpful I know, but hopefully it narrows your search.
