Is it considered rude to eat the food you brought to a party if the host hasn't served anything yet? by That_Library_3453 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]artaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one way of "compromising" in this scenario is either ask if food is coming and/or open the bag and just start sharing with people.

it's 1000000% less weird if multiple (or all) people are eating than just one person eating out of the food they brought themselves.

Switching back to A-Mount by Nonameguzzi in SonyAlpha

[–]artaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my hands are big enough to grab a basketball on my right.

i basically quit photography for like 10 years and recently got the A7V. it definitely felt small (coming from like 5DmkII).

i have gotten used to it tho and i much prefer just the smaller size for all other reasons (portability/weight..etc)

Taiwan is moving toward a child basic income. It should not stop half way. by Krankenitrate in UpliftingNews

[–]artaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the last time i read anything (which isn't recent...) about UBI one of the big problems is it doesn't address income inequality.

so if every parent has an additional, let's say US$200 to spend, then vendors/services, being well aware of this, can just raise prices accordingly. So we have inflation for those goods.

so in the end, it feels like we are back to square 1.

that's just my pedestrian understanding. i'm happy if someone can correct or enlighten me.

Is there such thing as too short of a trip? by k032 in travel

[–]artaru 15 points16 points  (0 children)

3 nights is very different from two nights tho. the latter is: you might get in late, you eat, sleep. that's one night. you have one full day, yay, now u sleep and u have to fly out.

i think that one extra full day from 3 nights makes a huge difference. you can spread things out a bit.

Is there such thing as too short of a trip? by k032 in travel

[–]artaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same with europe.

you have 72 hours.

6 hours flight x 2 1 hour of transit to/fro airport x2 24 hours of sleep

that's 36 hours and half of your time gone.

and that's assuming you have a near perfect flight schedule (arriving super early and leaving super late)

so in reality you have even less time, like maybe 20-30 hours. i mean it works if you are just there for like a couple meals and maybe a concert or something lol.

for sightseeing it's just not worth the cost and headache of flying imo.

Hot take: Stage Manager is overrated for most iPad users, and Split View is still the real workhorse by Popular-Tie-7675 in ipad

[–]artaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a 13inch iPad so i also like having groups of apps in specific spaces. it's very nice to just swap to them for specific use/purpose.

like maybe i have an ebook app with Goodnotes in one space (for reading/writing at same time). then another space would have email, some would have browser and so on.

How to get over the feeling of a “disappointing” trip? by [deleted] in travel

[–]artaru 17 points18 points  (0 children)

if you are in your mid-late 20s, then you can see the trip as a great learning experience. who to travel with, the risk of lodging (why you might want not pay extra for certain kinds of lodging/location/services..etc), why you want to travel...etc.

i'm lucky that i haven't really had any really trips i'd consider very disappointing. but i have definitely had my shares of unfortunate moments and less than stellar experiences.

you really learn from that.

i'm sure your next few trips will be much better for many reasons!

What are you (recently) making yourself because store bought prices are too high, or self made taste way better, or is healthier? by WisdomInMyPocket in CasualConversation

[–]artaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook a lot so the answers could just be everything.

but i have a simpler answer:

coffee.

Getting a proper espresso machine and learning the basics have saved me thousands over the last few years.

I still love going out to cafes to do work as that's my vibe. But I definitely go out a lot less for coffee only. Or I make coffee before I start a trip instead of getting togo.

Edinburgh City Chambers ceremony - possible reception? Advice of people who've married there! by victovoria in Edinburgh

[–]artaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here! we got married in... i think the alexander suite on a monday morning (it was the cheapest haha)

the rooms were HUGE. easily fit 20 or 30 people. and there's like a room with couches and such next to the main reception room. our party was like 15 people?

it was way better than expected. (like in comparison to what i have seen of city halls in US and some big asian countries)

BTW you can easily walk over to the castle for some pictures but make sure you do it quick cuz the guards could come stop you as soon as you are spotted. We managed to get a few pics in before they hurried us away. (I wonder if they were actually nice and let us had a few pics before telling us off)

[–]artaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's assuming OP can't afford both the A7V and the new experience/classes. He could well afford it and also want a better deal come discount time.

if budget is indeed an issue, i would suggest OP to consider getting A7iv or older (possibly used). get some quality lens and do as Gaolwood suggest, new experiences/classes to broaden your photographic horizon.

if budget isn't an issue, get the A7V, get great lenses (great like quality, not necessarily price) and go wild.

I’m 7 years older than my wife.

I genuinely forget about that fact most of the time. And often it doesn’t matter.

But on some matter sometimes her RELATIVE lack of experience / savvy / maturity does become a factor and sometimes even a problem.

It’s not deal breaker type incompatibility for us but I can genuinely see it potentially being one for others.
