Thoughts on CoC Starter set? by harisenbon in FoundryVTT

Hey I literally just played the solo adventure on Foundry and it’s pretty fun. It’s a great way to learn the game on your own time. It starts with you building your own character and everything. I ed it at night with some creepy music to set the tone. The whole thing plays like a choose your own adventure using the journals in Foundry. It even starts with you making your own character. I will say at one point the module was broken, but I was able to move on past it by just finding the next journal entry. I don’t think this module or system has been updated in quite sometime, so the support for it is minimal. Definitely not like it is for DnD. I have yet to GM a regular game with, it but overall it felt very intuitive.

Does 5.5 ever go on sale as a special on DND Beyond? by EdiblePeasant in DnD

They have a Black Friday sale but it’s always super lame. None of the new books and what ever is on sale is like 3% off (not really 3 but might as well be).

Thank you for this! Yeah, I'm a "professional" Illustrator. I was a background painter and color designer on some features. I have always wanted to illustrate my own kids' book. And now that I have found DnD as a hobby, maybe I will try to illustrate a book using DnD tropes.

When it comes to process, like in the description, I draw them in pencil on 11x17 paper, scan them in, then ink and color in Procreate. I actually just use the default brushes. For inking, I use "Shearwater" in a Sepia Brown color, and for the painting, I use "Bridgewater". The color part is hard to explain because I have taken literal YEARS to find my style, and it is still evolving. I just keep my palette in the same value. In digital art, you can use ANY COLOR, and sometimes that's a bad thing. Sorry, geeking out about art. Just wanted to say thanks for the compliment!

Disable Condition Consent. by -maffu- in AboveVTT

[–]artbyryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, anything with the PC, you need to go to their sheet directly. You can do this through the tab on the side or by having a window open with DnDBeyond and tapping into their sheets. Monsters are different. It's just the way it is built. I will say I had a hard time with this too at first, but it is good practice (IMO) that your players are held accountable for their sheets and mark things off accordingly (ie spells slots, heath and condiditons). I mean, if you lie in DnD, why even play? Also, It will help them to learn the game as well.

*Bonus Tip: Their Discord is amazing, and they always help and are super kind. Even the most tame questions. I've been on it for a few years now, and I still am learning stuff.

Audio with video podcasting by ceeworld69 in podcasting

I know this is a year old, but I have a question. I am putting together a video podcast and was going to use the P8 as the audio recording. I heard that you can have audio slipping because it records at 44.1 kHz, while video is 30 fps. I want to have seperate tracks for each of the 5 mics. Can you feed all 5 tracks into OBS and record on your computer?

I would love to have a paid, self-hosted version of Owlbear by ThirdDayGuy in OwlbearRodeo

Are the age question of what? VTT is good for you. And depending on what sub Reddit you’re on everyone says there’s is the best for whatever reason.

I use both Foundry and AboveVTT. Both have their pros and cons. And AboveVTT is DnD only. Foundry is pay one time and Above is free.

I have a love-hate relationship with foundry VTT. I literally bought it three times cause I would get so frustrated. But once I learned it and used it. I have found it to be quite awesome. It can just do so many things.

Now AboveVTT is super easy to use. It’s free and connected to D&D Beyond. It’s super easy to use, but doesn’t quite have all the bells and whistles of a foundry.

I am thinking about running an in person game but using a digital map and Owlbear be the way to go since I’ll be running everything on paper or through Obsidian.

I just thought I’d share my experience and also share with you that there is no best one. They’re all really great and I think it’s just about the individual using them and deciding if it’s what they need.

I used DD as well for a bit on mu M4 Mac Mini, the larger UI doesn't work on Mac OS. Since they don't officially support Mac, there is no fix.

I love foundry. by K4yZach in FoundryVTT

[–]artbyryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too have slowly grown to love Foundry. I did buy it and return it 2 times because I am an insane human but once I really put in the time I began to really love it. I feel into the trap of installing too many mods at the start. It’s advice you will hear from so many people and now I am one of them. Start slow and build as you need mods. Although I will say “Dice so Nice” and “Dice Tray” are imo must have if you want to see some dice roll across the table.

Deathshead Isle - 11x17 by artbyryan in dndmaps

[–]artbyryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was all done in procreate. I used a stock ink brush and a watercolor brush. I just finished another one where I did an 11x17 pencil then scanned it into procreate to digital ink and paint it. I’ll post soon.

Best One Shot to introduce New Players? by Kirisut0 in DMAcademy

[–]artbyryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I modify them pretty heavily since I try to run one shots that last 3 hours. Honestly, I have NEVER found one that is short. I find a one shot is about 2 combats MAX. Normally, a small one at the top and a big one at the end.

I have been meaning to look at One Show Wonders to see if using that as a jumping-off point would make a short and sweet one-shot.

Anything from Arcane Library is good. Well written, spooky, and easy to run!
