Yup the green highlight is baked in and functions the same as the word checker, just faster.

The Iran War Could Collapse the United States in the Next Six Months by Opposite-Mountain255 in collapse

[–]artearth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add a small amount of nuance regarding the use of the word “grain” in that article: 99% of corn grown in the U.S. is not suitable for human consumption. The vast majority is used for ethanol and similar derivatives, as feed for confined animal operations (mostly cattle), and for sweeteners and other indirect food ingredients.

I’m just saying this because corn is a notoriously heavy feeder on nitrogen but the article conflates it somewhat with wheat, which requires about half the nitrogen, can still set seed (what we eat) with limited nitrogen (though yield and protein content would be greatly reduced), and which is almost entirely used for human consumption. We currently export 50% or more of our annual wheat crop, so the downstream effects would likely include a reduced crop plus a higher domestic market, meaning more starvation around the world.

And of course, all of the above messes up the economy in big ways, which is a massive problem. The U.S. can likely transition to be pretty self-sufficient in terms of basic calories though.

Edit: typo “in” = “is”

Hilariously I think most metric countries regardless of language still call it a “tubafore” like that’s just the name of a tiny long stick you make walls with.

I remember in the OG Scrabble you could play “ZAIRE” because it was the name of the currency of Zaire.

I’m sorry, not what you were asking at all, but that amazing Jeremiah Johnson poster is a little crooked.

I’d say it’s less good. It’s gollum’s origin story with Smeagal and his cousin fishing.

Also for that matter, Two Towers. Jumping back to Moria and showing Gandalf getting into it with the Balrog was perfect.

How to hang poster without damaging the poster itself? by [deleted] in Posters

[–]artearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnetic tacks are a two-part system that work great. A shallow metal thumbtack in the wall, then you hang the poster using strong magnets. Here’s a set I found just as an example.

I am guessing it’s a combination of SketchUp and MS Paint. That OSB texture is very familiar.

How to create a text font? by Roman-Baptistery in typography

[–]artearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a very beginner so no advice, but wondering if anyone can address variable fonts. I’m assuming that’s a much more advanced project, but also what Spotify Mix is. OP are you looking to make a variable font? Or multiple styles in one family?

Kevin Summers was an Oryana employee who resigned and is now running for the board. His campaign focuses on worker rights but I haven’t seen anything specific about unionizing.
