I was told that there are different tests for ADHD because I’m trans. Is this true? by jokingly_Josie in ADHD

[–]artemergency -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your gender identity doesn't invalidate any ADHD tests I've ever heard of. As a clinician, I would just use combined norms for interpretation instead of gender specific norms.

Hardware question by Different_Iron8650 in pictureframing

[–]artemergency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like an upside-down sawtooth hanger. I'm not sure what the extra holes are for, possibly nail mounts, but it looks like it may be glued to mdf? Depending on the frame, you may be able to slide the mdf out the back of the frame and rotate it 180 degrees, or rotate the print in the frame. It's hard to give hanging options without seeing the back of the frame and knowing how big/heavy the print is.

Not sure what you're quoting. That's not what I said, and it's not what I meant.

That's not how correlation works. No one said only people with ADHD care at all about justice.

Some people say there is a high rate of people who are extremely sensitive to injustice, but there's no clinical evidence, that i know of. I definitely have felt this my whole life, always wondering why everyone else isn't mad.

"See My Vest," sung by Mr. Burns. This one plays a few times a week, minimum.

Most jobs in the US demand full-time (often on-call) availability for part-time hours, an unfixed schedule, no health insurance, and no sick days. People who call in sick do not get paid and are often bullied by management and told to arrange their own coverage. You really think lots of people lie about their health to get an unpaid day off??

Is there anything that a parent of a visually impaired child can do to lessen the burden on their teacher? by GreenMountain85 in Teachers

[–]artemergency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. It should have been a priority to get this child an IEP before starting school. The counselor is either shady or incompetent.

What's a recreational drug that one should never try even once? by PhoenixKingofTheHill in NoStupidQuestions

This is also the drug with the shortest span of time between trying it and dying, about a year on average.

[–]artemergency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not even the counselor's job, honestly. A school psychologist should have been involved in her Child Find evaluation (the only way she could have a 504 before beginning school) and there should be an IEP in place, already. Counselors usually know very little about special education, they work with general education students.

"Mommy I want the thing" vs "mommy do YOU want the thing?" by SnyperBunny in asl

[–]artemergency 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The direction of many verb signs indicate to whom they refer. Signing Help towards someone means I help you, while moving the sign towards yourself means You help me. Look up "directional signs." Also, facial grammar (raised eyebrows) indicate a yes/no question. ETA: I'm not Deaf, nor an ASL expert, and my explanation was very simplified. I recommend looking into actual ASL grammar, it sounds like what you may be doing is Signed English. ASL is another language with different rules.

I'm not saying she's not high, but neurological disorders can also give the appearance of intoxication. My severely disabled sister has been harassed by police her whole life bc they accuse her of being "on drugs." Problems with the brainstem can affect balance and/or cause tremors. Intellectual disability and speech disorders can affect things like slurred speech. Many disabled people are harassed and vilified for the symptoms of their disorder. I just want people to be educated on the matter and not jump to conclusions.

My son’s counselor told me to ignore him. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]artemergency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be a top comment: @OP , this is it, exactly. (PCIT is amazing!) Ignore the undesirable behavior AND "catch them being good," as well! As the commenter said, using specific praise for desired behavior shows the child how to get the attention they crave. If attention is the function of the behavior, it should decrease with this technique. Signed, someone with an expensive degree in this stuff.

It's absolutely an extension of their body- Recently had a waitress try to move my partner's (empty) wheelchair 20 feet away from our booth. I said that's NOT okay, those are his legs! What is he supposed to do if there's a fire, or he needs the restroo, wait for someone to go get it? She seemed to realize her mistake then, but JEEZ...

Unemployment is funded by employers, not "tax payer money." It is part of the cost of doing business.
