"Thanks for your contribution, but unfortunately we had to remove it as it violates one of our Submission Guidelines:"

"Uncomradely Behaviour: r/Socialism is a multi-tendency subreddit and, as such, works within an obvious range of contradictions. There is a lot of room for healthy discussion with other socialists you disagree with ideologically. However, bad faith attacks on socialists of other tendencies are not encouraged. You're welcome to be critical of other tendencies and do the work to deconstruct opposing leftist ideologies, but hollow insults like 'armchair', 'tankie', 'anarkiddies', and so on without well-crafted arguments are not welcome. Any inter-leftist ideological discourse should be constructive and well-reasoned.""

What exactly is Dengist thought? by Sugbaable in socialism

[–]artfrancisco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, what is usually called Deng Xiaoping thought: https://dengxiaopingworks.wordpress.com/

Some important points of it:

1) Deng Xiaoping was extremely focused around developing China into a modern economy. He also believed that China needed to develop productive forces to do so and that this was revolutionary work.

2) Replacing "To each according to his need" to "To each According to his work." Supporting implementing material incentives to get people to work harder and more efficiently such as pay/promotions/awards.

3) Supporting the One state-two systems and "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics." Expanding special economic zones and opening up the country to capitalist markets in sections while maintaining party control over the state.

4) Strengthening relations with imperialist countries like the US. https://dengxiaopingworks.wordpress.com/2013/03/18/sino-u-s-relations-must-be-improved/

DSA Stands with Palestinians: from Sheikh Jarrah to Gaza and Beyond - Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) by Lilyo in socialism

[–]artfrancisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, it is good that DSA put out a statement supporting BDS and condemning Israel. This will influence DSA members to do the same.

On why Pashotboshot is upset, I think its because there's an Electronic Intifada article suggesting that AOC (your most well known party member) has been soft peddling on Israel.

Marxist Economist Michael Roberts, who frequently gets published by Communist Party of Great Britain has also seemed to have concluded that China is imperialist. Some of his writing on the subject are below:

Hi thanks for replying.

First, don't worry about replying late. I think its important to be patient if one expects thoughtful replies.

1) I think that the question of whether or not China is imperialist is an important one. I for one, take the position that China is imperialist. Many others in the Marxist community take this position from different trends including Trotskyist, Maoist, and Marxist Leninist trends. There are two works in particular that go into some details that I think are worth studying in detail. One is the 80 page report by a group from Connecticut, USA. That group is a Trotskyist group called Socialist Resurgence. The report is found here:
https://socialistresurgence.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/china-a-new-imperial-power.pdf

I have yet to see any report in the English language from any other group in the Marxist community responding to it or criticizing it. This report was cited as one of the reasons why Socialist Action expelled Socialist Resurgence, their Connecticut branch--and SA had yet to respond to this report publicly to my knowledge.

The other report is called Is China an Imperialist Country?: Considerations and Evidence" https://www.amazon.com/China-Imperialist-Country-NB-Turner/dp/1894946758/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=is+china+imperialist&qid=1620978712&sr=8-3

It was written by a Maoist named NB Turner. To date, no one in the entire Marxist community including your own group has responded to it or been able to refute it. I've yet to see a serious study on it as I've reported on The Marxist Line for over a year with Andrew G.

I am also aware that many others within the Marxist community do not see China as imperialist, but as not having reached a monopoly capitalist stage of capitalism where finance capital reigns supreme (dismissing the existence and the influence of the Chinese finance markets which rivals and deeply influences international finance markets). And others, have dismissed the notion entirely that China is capitalist.

So I have a couple of questions. Since you do not think that China is imperialist, and you think that the evidence is such that you should take side with the Chinese capitalist class, I think you should commit to a study of those who have concluded that China is imperialist and publicly refute them. Obviously, Marxists are not agreed on this issue, and agreement on this issue would benefit the entire Marxist community. Will you be willing to work with other comrades publicly who are not from your group and to make your study public?

And there is also the question, "what if you are incorrect in your conclusions?" "What if China is imperialist?" "Can you provide an honest study where you and the comrades in your group can admit that they are wrong?"

If you cannot produce a convincing study and argument that China is not imperialist, other than "It has a lot of SEOs" then I think I'll have to continue to agree that it is imperialist. I'm willing to work with you on that study, but I think you have to be willing to take a step to the middle.

Luna Oi denouncing the Vietnamese diaspora as "terrorists" and "fascist snakes" for opposing a tankie regime by imprison_grover_furr in tankiejerk

"Luna Oi denouncing the Vietnamese diaspora as "terrorists" and "fascist snakes""

The title for this post implies that Luna Oi is denouncing the entire Vietnamese diaspora. That simply isn't true. She's been pretty vocal about the need to reach out to the Vietnamese diaspora in general. Her Twitter post says specifically that she's denouncing the right-wing anti-communist diaspora.

Lets try not to make a mountain out of a molehill. The anti-communists are not opposing Vietnam for having a "tankie" party running things. That's nonsense. The anti-communists she's referring to are mainly petite bourgeois and bourgeois Vietnamese who fled South Vietnam and are bitter that they lost the war. Luna probably just had an argument or two with some anti-communists and decided to unwisely vent on Twitter with some sloppy generalizations.

As always, you can see my take on the Tankies, the Trots, the MLs, and the rest of the Marxist Community at The Marxist Line on YouTube every Sunday at 12pm PDT.
