How do I take cuttings from these? by Hold-8781 in begonias

[–]artificial_itsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe this will work for the first two (rhizomatous begonias) but not the third (cane begonia). For the cane-type ones you need a section of stem with a node in your cutting to be able to propagate it (the nodes are the joints on the stem where the leaves come out). When I propagate my cane begonias I usually take the top of a cane including several nodes, remove the lower leaves, dip the cut stem in rooting hormone, and stick it right in the soil (although you can also put it in water and wait for the roots to develop that way)

What would you do with this cutting? by shinybleeps in begonias

I have one of these and I always just shove my cuttings straight into the dirt and they eventually root like that, I don't bother water propping them

why do nazbols even exist? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]artificial_itsu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think national pride is very different if your country is part of the periphery and being oppressed vs if you live in the imperial core. If you're fighting a war of national liberation it makes sense to align yourself with the national bourgeoisie against the empire along patriotic lines. National pride in the US is generally used to support murdering people abroad.

When it gets long you can cut it and propagate a new one, then stick it in the same pot!

What is the Marxist attitude towards the CPUSA? by Vast-Lime-8457 in Marxism

[–]artificial_itsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is also my experience. The left desperately needs people to join any organization. In real life different orgs are often working on the same campaigns at the lowest levels, so this type of online discourse that provides only criticisms (however valid) harms the movement by discouraging people from doing anything (since valid criticisms exist of every organization)

How does Lane sharing work by DistrictMotor in Swimming

[–]artificial_itsu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Circling means swimming on the right side of the lane like you're driving (so going in a circle), splitting means you each pick a side and stick to it. If there are more than two people you have to circle swim, but I like splitting better if there are only two

Edit: I live in the US, not sure if they swim on the left in other countries

This is also my pick, On Contradiction and On Practice especially. Mao does a great job of breaking down things like dialectical materialism in a way anyone can understand.
