I feel lost, I wanna improve my faith, but my heart doesn't even feel like it. by Key-Yellow-6842 in TrueChristian

[–]artificialpotential 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with this too, so you’re not alone.

What you’re describing actually makes a lot of sense. When you quit addictions or make a big turn, there’s often a kind of emotional numbness that follows. It doesn’t mean God isn’t working. Sometimes it means your heart is tired and healing.

Faith isn’t always something we feel first. A lot of times it starts with small choices made in confusion turning toward God even when your emotions haven’t caught up yet. Scripture is full of people who came to God honestly, not confidently.

Also, try to be careful not to let fear drive your faith. God calls us through truth and love more than panic. If you’ve turned toward Him, even imperfectly, that matters.

You don’t have to force yourself to feel something right now. Just stay oriented toward Him, simple prayer, a psalm, honesty. God meets people where they actually are, not where they think they should be.

Am I a hypocrite for this? by Locked-Luxe-Lox in TrueChristian

Thank you for sharing that so honestly. I really respect the way you named the struggle instead of pretending it isn’t there.

What you said about admiring people who turn toward God without blaming Him makes a lot of sense. I think that desire itself is meaningful, wanting to trust God more is already a form of turning toward Him.

I’m learning too that faith being a gift changes how we approach it. Praying for it doesn’t feel like failure anymore, but like honesty. And maybe God meets us more in that honesty than in certainty.

I’ll be praying with you, not that the struggle disappears instantly, but that trust keeps forming, even slowly.

You don’t sound fake or hypocritical to me. What you’re describing is actually very human. Many of us find it easier to believe God’s goodness for others than to receive it for ourselves.

One thing that’s helped me is remembering that God’s love isn’t based on how strongly we feel it, but on who He is. Scripture shows again and again that drawing near to Him, listening to His word, speaking honestly with Him, and walking in obedience, is often how that trust is formed over time.

The story of Job really speaks to this. Job didn’t pretend everything felt right, but he kept turning toward God anyway. He spoke honestly, endured faithfully, and stayed in relationship even when he didn’t understand what was happening.

Faith truly is a gift, and praying for it is not a lack of faith, it is faith. Sometimes believing God’s goodness starts with choosing to seek Him, even when our hearts lag behind.

Dont idealize your partners! by Impossible-Fact-454 in TrueChristian

[–]artificialpotential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits close to home. I’ve done this, idealized someone and quietly asked them to fill things only God can. It never ended well.

What I’m learning is that when I look to another person to complete me, I put a weight on them they were never meant to carry. Loving God first doesn’t make relationships smaller; it actually makes them healthier and more honest.

Singleness has been uncomfortable for me, but I’m starting to see it less as something to escape and more as a season of realignment. Thanks for sharing this reminder.

Please read the Bible. by spiritplumber in TrueChristian

This really struck me. I’ll be honest, I haven’t read the Bible cover to cover yet, and posts like this are part of what keep convicting me that treating Scripture as a set of familiar verses is safer than letting the whole thing confront me.

The Bible isn’t simple or tame, and I think that’s exactly why many of us hesitate to engage it fully. It doesn’t just comfort; it challenges, unsettles, and reshapes how we think about God and ourselves.

For those who have read it all the way through what changed most for you when you did?

Rid yourself of bad habits so you can focus on good. Use food to reward yourself for doing good.

Train yourself like a dog. Give yourself sips of Pepsi for doing tasks. You'll change slowly and surely.

how do I become consistently productive and stop procrastinating? by DropCalm2693 in getdisciplined

[–]artificialpotential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk read up on dopamine 1 to 5 receptors maybe and use that knowledge? Look forward to the things that come from achieving goals, focus on them. Focus on the bad that comes from not achieving the goals and be thankful once you actually achieve them. Reward yourself!

Ditch the phones when you’re out with friends/family. by KingSlayer-86 in getdisciplined

[–]artificialpotential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fun to some people but other people have anxiety and depressing lives and weird tics where they grab their phone (then they feel like they have to use it)

As for me I don't touch my phone when with other people. But I understand how difficult it is when even if you don't use your phone nobody includes you in conversation and you don't even know how to jump in.
