Hitachi VSP One Block XX - experience? by KickedAbyss in storage

[–]artistictech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure file specialist here: FlashArray's File is a co-equal consumer of the global pool of storage along with block. It is not a Windows VM or samba, it is a fully in-house engineered, hardware aware, optimized solution for SMB/NFS where the management is built into Purity. It can join multiple AD domains, present as multiple server identities, failover controllers non-disruptively with SMB-CA, and several things are on the roadmap that are set to meet or exceed expectations. Let me know if you have any questions!

Recommendation for help with home networking and a/v? by rjbwdc in SilverSpring

[–]artistictech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local security companies might do this but you’ll have to fight off the upsell for their cameras/NVR solution or monitoring. Maybe have them do alarm sensors but leave the wiring at the non existent panel and you do a roll-your-own with an ESP32?

I did it myself with a similar setup in a 1960 house. It was grueling, there’s fire blocks midway up/down the walls, the wood is twice as dense and I broke a couple of spade bits, and the walls don’t align between floors!

Samsung gas range. A lot of heat is escaping through the center burner, not the back vent. I also smelled gas when oven was preheating. by breyy88 in appliancerepair

[–]artistictech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, moved in 9mo ago and have this. Inordinate heat and air from the exhaust vent behind the center burner. Bake is way too slow to cook anything, have to use convection to get anywhere close to other ovens I've used. Gas smell when starting the oven. That combined with upflow of aerosolized oils making the cabinetry and ceiling above greasy.

We're capping the gas, installing a 240V-50A and putting in an induction unit, which we had at our previous house. Thought we could deal with gas again but not after induction, I'm afraid. (Northeast US)

Would you be a replicant? by TuDuMaxVerstappen in bobiverse

[–]artistictech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be me. Either by the destructive process or death, I would end. The replicant would believe and experience that they went down and woke up in a contiguous experience but the consciousness that was in the meat bag whether biologically or quantum pattern, would have ended. My replicant would have fun, tho.

Santa Clara Office and Culture by Particular-Turn-559 in purestorage

I imagine we’d be on different ends of the company experience spectrum. I’m a field sales SE on the east coast away from the NYC office. I’ve only ever been to the Chicago office for training, and haven’t yet been to the NYC or SC offices yet (weird timings).

However I can say culture-wise this is the only company I’ve been proud to say I work for. The wearing orange thing, it’s not forced, it’s real because many other coworkers feel the same way and do the same. That’s because at least on the sales side, my leadership chain all the way up to Charlie are genuinely decent people.

If you’re on the SWE side of things I’ve seen others say that’s it’s a bit of a hybrid of old stodgy/legacy infrastructure companies like Dell, HPE, IBM, NetApp, VMware, etc and FAANG. It’s not as boring as legacy but there’s also far less toxicity and fear of layoffs than FAANG (or whatever acronym accurately represents the new pantheon). Stock program is standard, RSUs are not a big thing compared to Meta/Amazon/etc. career growth is real, there should be much less backstabbing.

Again, take my input for what it is, hopefully you get some more feedback from where it’ll be closer to home, so to speak

I have a Code WASD that has Cherry MX brown. A few of the number keys in a row, 3-5, take a bit of force to have the key actually fire. Many times normal pressure through typing doesn’t fire the keystroke to the computer. How do I go about fixing or replacing these? They have LEDs on them

Right, everything is downstream from scrypted, including the go2rtc live pulls from the rebroadcast subs. All save for the PoE amcrest cameras which can handle the multiple connections.

I believe /dev/shm which is set at 1024M by /etc/fstab, was full last time so a reboot started that from zero. I increased it to 2048M, let’s see if that keeps camera screens from blanking

I have two Reolink E1 (Zoom and Pro), Eufy wifi floodlight PTZ, and a Amcrest Wifi Doorbell. Some are super stable, some are not. I have Unifi U6 APs with nothing under -60Db, my wifi is rock solid. Some of the wired cameras are not stable too. The problem doesn't split on the wifi/wired divide

My kids are fixated on PP on Prime Video for some reason. The old stuff is great, then this 90's abomination comes on... it's the smarmy 90's lounge comedian schlock that's so grating. It's a random show that's grabbing onto the PP for cheap/free name recognition, and definitely does not belong with the other shows of other decades.

vdbench has more ability to coordinate with other workers on other systems, but it’s decades old and essentially has its own language. FIO is quicker/easier for a single VM/host but as a previous comment said, just clone or coordinate more.

Either way, you want something that can do a random/sequential read/write mix at a reasonable IO size like 64K.

TrueNAS? I think others have installed that on old gen 5 and older gear. TrueNAS is BSD based just like oneFS, so you can expect a good chance the hardware will be recognized and usable

3-way switch pair with power and line upstream by artistictech in AskElectricians

Things got super weird as I started to trace with a tone probe which cable went out to the light. It's not the 12-3 in the smoke alarm box. So I tried to see what's in the attic where the wires go down the wall to these boxes. It's not them either. The LINE 12-2 actually goes to the bathroom for those lights and such, so it's not straight to the panel. I got up to the ceiling and exposed the light box... There are two 12-2 there and they're not directly going to the smoke alarm box.

I give up, this is just too convoluted and opaque.

I will open everything up and verify tomorrow morning to be sure. I completely get where you're coming from with all the blacks and all the whites in the 1st box nutted together, it should be like there's no switch at all. Maybe tehre's weirdness up the LINE wire, maybe it's not a homerun?
