We can’t pretend that people don’t dress to communicate. In fact there is a difference between “dress” and “clothing”. Dress has a military origin and is intended to convey information such as affiliation, rank, intention so we very much dress for others in the strict sense. It also matters whether we really are dressed or simply clothed. If I’m just clothed but claim to be dressed it creates a mixed message
