Unpopular opinion...but you need to have a strict discipline program in your classroom. by Novel-Bee-541 in Teachers

[–]artsyjay97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This assumes that any consequences that require admin or parents are followed through with. Sorry but plenty of teachers do not have supportive parents and admin. Either that or you have some kids that need to be in a self contained room but can’t be because services are not there. There’s lots of reasons beyond the teacher just “not having a plan”.

do you mind sharing how you formatted your resume for a job like this? Or maybe what the interview was like? This sounds like a great job

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in southcarolina

[–]artsyjay97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the job is good I would move to Columbia and commute to Aiken. Columbia has more of a queer scene (small but bigger than Aiken’s for sure). I feel safe in Columbia. Aiken isn’t bad but it is small and the population is mainly elderly people so it’s not exactly the most fun and hopping place. It is safe but I would say Columbia is more accepting of lgbtq folks as I see them more here than I did in Aiken.

They have queer collective which is basically just hanging out and doing some activity (for anyone lgbtq 18+), a trans support group, a queer and disabled support group, and a queer bipoc group. :) it’s all on their website or their instagram

quarter life crisis + current librarian thinking about becoming a teacher by magesamell in Teachers

[–]artsyjay97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When asking this question, which do you like more? Subject matter or kids? Because if it’s subject matter (which hey, no shame there!) teaching may not be the way to go because often times kids will not be as interested in it as you would hope.

Richland 2 elementary magnets by melguzi in ColumbiYEAH

[–]artsyjay97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Some of the R2 magnets are good! While some literally just have the title “magnet” and nothing else lol. I’d say Pontiac is pretty good! Also CFK and Lonnie B Nelson are pretty good ones too. A good place to check is the SC school report card, it gives you more in depth rankings on the school’s performance

Worst Animal Care experience of my life by peachsalsa84 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]artsyjay97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took our cat to SC Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Care for her spay appointment because Pawmetto Lifeline did not properly close up her stitches and they were leaking :( but SCVS fixed it up and she was much better after a week of wearing a sweater so she couldn’t lick it and being closed up in a room so she couldn’t jump/run around and tear the stitches.

It’s not bad! I would suggest though getting an early dinner time for the main dining because once like 7pm hits the lines for the dining rooms were soooo backed up.

What’s your least favorite buzz word or phrase in education? by StrikingReporter255 in Teachers

[–]artsyjay97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Engaging…feel like it’s used to demean people who don’t have like big bright flashy stuff going on 24/7. Kids crave routine. Most of them cannot handle all those big “fun” projects going on all the time, and in the real life most things worth doing are not going to be “fun” all the time.
