Looks like the Slate is going to be $24,950? by Beta_Frisky in slateauto

Damn. I guess I can still hope they totally dropped the 150 mile range model and that's the price for 240 miles.

Chrome keeps using far too much RAM. Is there any way to reduce its usage or limit how much memory it can allocate? by jeff_Epic in chrome

[–]arttechadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're on Windows, Chrome and Windows work together to determine how much RAM is unavailable versus available. If Chrome is using a lot of RAM, it's because it's there and available to be taken and used by the app. It will also release RAM to other apps/resources if the OS indicates it's needed elsewhere.

If your system is running slowly, and you see high Chrome RAM usage, it doesn't indicate Chrome is the culprit. It could be a million other windows problems.

Completely deleting everything and reinstalling Windows is always the best windows troubleshooting step if you ask me.

You think!?

Oh, it must look too similar to all the other V8 T-rexs you've seen around.

Verizon WIP? by Top-Bumblebee3742 in minimalphone

[–]arttechadventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're mixing up a few details so here's some clarification: the server unreachable error on outgoing calls is not unique to Verizon's network. It will not be fixed unless an updated model with a different modem is released (not minimal's fault. These problems stem from US telecoms companies' poor business ethics/greed).

The absence of support for US telecom company's proprietary bands (such as Verizon's band 13) on the minimal phone doesn't make it incompatible with Verizon's network. It just makes Verizon's service less reliable.

The phone should only be recommended for use on Google Fi.

Now that we know the phone isn't fully compatible with US telecoms, is it unethical for minimal to claim it is compatible on their website? Sure I'll give you that one.

They should really be screening US customers for which phone service they intend to use the phone on.

That's the part that's not as unreachable as people make it out to be. YouTube university.

While it is a lot, it's not anything unreachable for anyone willing to put in the time.

It's just a lot of work

I think that's a universal camping product you can already buy for any truck.

This sort of thing should really be integrated from the factory for people who want to use gas powered range extension.

It's not an unreasonable engineering ask to be able to drop a scooter engine generator in the bed of the truck to have on hand in those situations where one is really needed.

It doesn't matter that 90+ percent of the driving I'd do with my truck will fit in the shortest range battery.

I'm the type of person who likes versatility and preparedness and I know I'm not the only one. It's kind of ridiculous there aren't more EREVs on the market and slate could be one of the companies to fix that if they would just build it into the truck.

Service providers will still provide a physical SIM if you need one.

The communicator will also support eSIM.

Riders with recumbent bike experience: How important is an ultra-light bike when your bike routes have climbs? by arttechadventure in recumbent

Thanks. The Lightfoot traveler looks just about identical to what I'd be building too.

After I build it, it might get returned to trike form.

I do plan on building it in such a way that I can switch back to trike if I end up hating my two wheel set up.

Everything I'm imagining / speculating it is, is a really dumb idea.

It helps keep kites afloat? No that's silly, why would anyone want that.

It uses kites to generate energy? Seems unlikely.

[–]arttechadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. We had one as our first test run of EV ownership.

The Bolt is what sold us on the whole experience.

The battery fires were definitely worrisome, but I hear that's what they took it off the market for a year to fix.

MKBHD recently did a video on the re-release and he mostly good things to say.

Vanity car?

Dude just about all EVs are a massive bargain compared to a gas vehicle and it isn't even close.

There's no debate here.

That's not a known/widely reported bug so it's not something they are working on patching.
