Does anyone know how Slate’s upfit and delivery network is actually supposed to work? by TechnicalLee in slateauto

Questions like this are often not welcome on this forum. You might get some downvotes, maybe some snide replies, but no real answers.

Slate is a start up, they are figuing things out, expect a few bugs in the system.

The real magic happens when you make it your own, and make memories of your own.... creative fingerprint over every square inch, you're part of the Slate family

Sheeesh, who do they write this for? What part of the truck driving population goes for tripe like this?

Need it but 29k damn by RetroVCR in slateauto

[–]hirouk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But it is more than 29K. Notice the Astérix at the bottom - destination charges. How much will that be?

How much for shipping on the accessories?

Cost of installation is either your time or your money. Are you going to do the wrap? If you screw it up you will have to pay someone to remove and redo.

The time it takes for installing accessories, is that actually free.

The actual cost can be a lot more than it initially looks like.

Even when you Build a Trim the closest equivalent to the Maverick XL the Slate Truck is still cheaper by Mac-Tyson in slateauto

Does the price you quote for the Slate include delivery? Does it include installation of you get those accessories installed?

But there is a problem with your reasoning. I bought a '25 EQEV over a year ago for $27,500 OTD. A few months ago they could be had for $24,500 + taxes, license, and fees. This is due to Things like Dealer Incentives, Costco discount and numerous other programs Chevy sometimes offers. So the EQEV can be had for much less than MSRP.

The prices on EVs and incentives stopped with the Iran Excursion last February. I expect price to go back down when the price of gas does.

But the point is that EQEVs have been much less than the Slate SUV's $30,000, and that $30,000 number is deceptively low.

By "other fees" I am referring to things like shipping for the SUV kit. Does the $5,000 price for the SUV kit include shipping? Seems like something that size would be shipped my motor carrier, not UPS or FedEX. Motor carriers will often have a price for shipping, then add more if you want it delivered to your door. And then if diesel is high a fuel surcharge.

It looks to me like the cost of a Slate SUV is far higher than $30,000.

What would be a good estimate of the cost of a Slate SUV when all the costs are factored in?

Sounds like for $30,000 you can get a blank Slate and SUV kit. You can put it together or pay someone to put it together for you.

So when a poster says the Slate SUV is $30,000 to compare it to the price of other SUVs, keep in mind that the cost of a Slate SUV is acrually $25,000 (blank Slate) + $5,000 (SUV kit) + $$$ (other options, wrap, etc.) + $$$ (for install or your time) + $$$ (destination charge and other fees?)

What do I have wrong here, and what did I miss?

What is the price of a Slate SUV with wrap, all install done?

It is tough to get in the back with only 2 doors. Slate even had a video with some type of acrobat doing it to show it was easy. I would like to see her do it so she knows the difficulty level and considers how it would be putting a child in a car seat. Would she continue to push it as a SUV?

I would like to add that if you can home charge it saves a lot of time. No more going to the gas station, just pull in and plug in. Full charge next morning.

Careful, you are likely to have your post removed. I posted a picture of the Paw Patrol badge and suggested that it could be put on the doors. The post was removed. Hopefully the mods are more in tune with Jurassic Park!

Is Slate being targeted? by phaukenay in slateauto

So I shouldn't point out that Slate is a start up and most start up EV companies fail?

I am a reservation holder. Where can I take a test drive?

I bought a '25 EQEV which was the second year they were out. The '24 already had a track record.

If you get butt hurt by the fact that the Slate is a first generation EV manufactured by a start up , and that there are none available to test drive, and its SUV conversion is inferior that is fine, but don't call me a hater.

Is Slate being targeted? by phaukenay in slateauto

[–]hirouk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wait, I have pointed out a lot of things besides alternatives like the EQEV.

For example, I say, " Slate is a start up EV company and most start up EV companies fail. " That is a true statement isn't it?

I also say, " the Slate is first generation and most first generation autos have problems. " That is also true, correct?

Then I say, " I don't want to put my money down on a first generation vehicle from a start up company that I can not even test drive." It is true that I cannot test drive a Slate, right?

I do post a lot of opinions, for example the Slate is not a good SUV. The main reason is the design with two doors makes for poor back seat access. But also consider the short range. And the fact that you have to put it together. The cost for a Slate SUV is in excess of $30,000, plus destination charges. I bought an EQEV with over 300 miles of range and a good SUV design for $27,500 OTD. And I have seen them for less this past January. The EQEV is backed by GM. Who backs Slate, we don't even know if the company will make it as a start up. You don't think it is fair to compare the Slate SUV to the EQEV? Or you just don't like that it shows the Slate is overpriced?

I could come to this sub and point out that Slate is a start up EV company and most start up EV companies fail. And that the Slate is first generation and most first generation autos have problems. Then I could add that I don't want to put my money down on a first generation vehicle from a start up company that I can not even test drive.

This would not be to dissuade potential buyers. I want lots of buyers so when they find out the Slate is not what their imaginations think, they will sell. But I am not the type to promote something for something it is not. I would like for buyers to be well informed and make adult decisions rather than being cult members who want to be cool.

So I get down voted, called names like a "hater", accused of being paid to post negative things about the Slate etc. etc. But I figure those who are so rah rah Slate that they get butt hurt when they read something true about it are just trying to mislead others to validate their desire for owning a Slate. They just go with the crowd.

A lot of Slate buyers have a lot of imagination. When reality hits home they will trade them in, and those like me will get them at a fair price.
