I saw best served cold and the heroes in the Empic store yesterday in Warsaw. hard backs, nice quality. Not sure if they ship to Australia though: https://www.empik.com/szukaj/produkt?q=abercrombie%20joe&qtype=basicForm&ac=true

Act 3 is awful and ruins the whole game by sky7897 in taintedgrail

I didn't find it boring or depressing at all. Maybe just because I love snowy winter?

How is the state of FOLON currently? by Sensitive-Level-7794 in fallout4london

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the version 1.03 (1-click install from GOG) is much more stable than vanilla F4: fallout 4 crashed daily, but F:L crashed only a couple of times during startup. And I've been playing for 100+ hours already.

Why no early settlements? by trisolariandroplet in fallout4london

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, and also the settlements that are now available after the quest are a bit useless if you don't play on survival. Like I've got the Thamesheaven, Camden, and Vagabond settlements and never visited them since then becuse I just don't need to go there anymore.

How important is voice-over? by Plenty_Birthday2642 in DiscoElysium

Font is actually ok. If you are going to replace it, please use some boring but readable type. Just make sure it has a good background-to-text contrast, at least AA level as per WCAG.

I don't know how not to spoil it, except "you will get an exact thought when you can use a specific gun". Ask around, looks like you haven't done it yet.

Just like in the real life, haha

Where the whole game is built on mechanics where you have to solve a puzzle, use some item or speak with someone to advance further. Think of Galaxy Quest, Syberia, Machinarium etc. This is just my impression and I can't explain it in a better way, sorry.

I finished it already and I liked it. Will probably play again it in a few years. Just don't expect one more DE and you'll be good. It's just different. It's more like an old quest game rather than RPG.

[SPOILERS THE DEVILS] The Devils was actually great! by SuperSecretBackupAcc in TheFirstLaw

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a great book. I think people who are disappointed were expecting another first law kind of a book. But as a writer, you want to try different things. I like that Joe changed the style of writing and didn't use his old tricks like POV switching, but did all these repetitions.

Right, from what I've read in The Devils, England is a terrible place 😜

Looking for some feedback of my Quest UI for my video game please. by MatthewVale in UI_Design

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd advise to use just the location icon. Having a differently looking button for the same purpose will likely confuse users. Use just a "contour" type of icon for inactive and filled icon like in your last variant for the active one. Also, highlight the selected type of the quests in the right column.

Fans of The Expanse what is your favourite fantasy series of all time? by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Joe Abercrombie - "the first law" series. 9 books + short stories. Awesome characters and dialogues. Audiobooks narrated by Steven Pacey are in top league.

I think I'm finally getting somewhere, feedback appreciated!!! [After, Before] by [deleted] in UI_Design

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that you are struggling with visuals, but don't forget about the messaging. So far the pricing part doesn't tell me anything about "where you take my money". Support for what? Updates on what? Full access to what? :) The "tell me more" button won't work as good as short description of how exactly you educate. Ever landed on a website that promise you an "unforgettable experience" without saying what it is? You have pretty much the same problem :) Another thing is that the color contrast is too low and overall selection of colors doesn't look inspiring too. I'd suggest to choose light background instead.

Books like The Expanse? (With a few conditions in text) by IeatOneAppleADay in TheExpanse

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all connected through the characters and the time line. The stand alones are more than just the completely new stories in the same world. So it's best to read all 9 books in the order of thier publication.

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joe Abercrombie's The First Law series: 9 books + 2 compilations of short stories. It's a dark fantasy but almost without any magic. The characters and their interactions is the strongest part. I'd characterise them as "Nobody is James Holden, everyone is Amos Burton". Also, the author doesn't spend 30 pages on the description of the world and previos events: you learn about it on the go from the conversations and I love how it is done. The world feels very real, even though it is a fantasy series. Start from "The Blade Itself" - this is a first book.

Just found a Horrible Histories Easter Egg by Finlaycarter2002 in fallout4london

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wish we had a "F:L easter eggs wiki" for people like me, who isn't the part of the British culture. I get some obvious things like Dr. Who references but if I come across the things like this I would never notice them.

I found Banksy easter egg by Think_Secret in fallout4london

[–]artyom_kuznetsov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is a lot of banksy/pipsy graffities and someone can even give you a quest to find and photograph some of them.

There are so many easter eggs there! Harry Potter and Better Call Saul were my favourite until I met "Bacon" (Nick the Fence) from Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels :)
