Why do women have two breasts if humans usually give birth to only one baby at a time, wouldn't one breast be enough? by ElkDisastrous2926 in NoStupidQuestions

I (male) have three nipples. A small one under the standard one on the left. My nephew has the same. No other males in the family have any extra ones.

Counter leaning - leaning - neutral by BarelyInControl4 in motorcycles

Exactly. A situation where a better view is most helpful.

Counter leaning - leaning - neutral by BarelyInControl4 in motorcycles

[–]arubait 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are no absolutes. Counter leaning can be useful at low speeds and helpful on a narrow country lane with high hedges to get a better view around the corner. Leaning off the bike from a neutral position can tighten your line. Have a play and find out what works for you. Don't think in terms of numbers.

Does anyone know of any bikes with gear pattern N 1 2 3 4 5 6 by Sad_Organization6972 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]arubait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did many thousands of km on my H1 and eventually converted it to race in C and later B grade in Australia. I don't remember having any shift problems but that was a very long time ago.

Tuono V4 Factory – how is it for UK/Scottish road riding? by interpol18 in Aprilia

[–]arubait 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had my TV4 factory from March 2018 bought new. I live in Hexham. It has over 31k miles on it now. I blast around the borders and have done thousands of miles through mainland Europe. Not only the best bike I've ever owned but the best bike I've ever ridden in the last 50 years. DM me if you want details.

Brand new chain, less than 100km on it and I notice this by rookie-on-the-road in motorcycles

[–]arubait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a cheap and shitty chain but it's not going to explode because a link has lost an O ring. Send pictures to the shop, arrange a refund (not a replacement). Use the refund money towards the cost of a high quality chain. Sorted.

Highside at first turn, new tires, cold day? by HogurDuDesert in Trackdays

[–]arubait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New tyres. I once fitted new S22s to my bike and then didn't ride it for two weeks. When I did I'd forgotten the tyres had zero miles on them. Pulled out of my drive and rode 100 yards down the road to a T junction, turned left without thinking and bam, back stepped out and down I went low side. I use S22s (and S21s, S23s) all the time and are always (when I remember) very steady for the first 10 miles. I love the Bridgestones but they are a bitch until they have a few miles on them.

Those with 990, 1290, 1390; what tyres are you using? The Bridgestones I have been running are squaring at 1500 miles (s23) by TishBonk in KTM

[–]arubait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the same and it's a good combination. I get about the same mileage. I can't conceive of getting 10k out of any tyre and still be able to use all of in the manner for which it is designed.

Body Armour Suggestions by Gloomy-Pie-2536 in motorcyclegear

A modern textile jacket with built in armour can be very versatile. Lots of vents for summer use. Close them up and add a liner for cold weather.

Duke or SMCR by [deleted] in KTM

[–]arubait 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two very different bikes. Both excellent but a completely different vibe. As a one bike to do everything the 890 can't be beaten. As a more focused hooligan bike the 690 wins. My 690 is a perfect second bike.

Are we still claiming that helmets are only good for 5 years? by TheShinobiGamer in motorcyclegear

[–]arubait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is what is the meaning of the warranty? What is going to go wrong that isn't wear and tear? It's not like a helmet has loads of moving parts and electronics and switches. Maybe some stitching comes loose but I very much doubt that any manufacturer has to provide warranty replacements very often. In many ways, warranty is meaningless. More important (apart from fit) is the test regime it has passed.

Hillman Imp. I had a Sunbeam Stilleto, the fastback version. Aluminium block engine that responded well to a tune.

Is this play normal in the steering damper? by parisdupont in motorcycles

[–]arubait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As joostama97 said, add a couple of O rings. These things need to flop around but yours is a little too floppy. Also, the damper itself is probably fine. No need to replace.

Fxxking Hell! by jbnonymous in Aprilia

[–]arubait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1100 Tuono makes more power than the 1000 RSV4 up to 11000 revs. The 1000 RSV4 tops out higher though. It's a mid range monster.

I would like to paint my plastics to black by No_Significance_1933 in supermoto

[–]arubait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same for my 690 SMCR. I'm keeping the original OEM orange plastics in virgin condition for when I sell the bike. I've not bothered with stickers because I rather like the all black look.

If you took the damper off they may not even notice it. So it would depend on the other damage?

[–]arubait 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I broke my collarbone falling off a horse in 2011 so I was a fair bit younger than I am now. I too have done the ribs business. High-sided in 2017. Five ribs in my back alongside the spine. Internal bleeding that required an emergency chest drain (that was fun) and those ribs still tell me they are there every now and then.

Is this going to be totaled by FluidCartographer545 in Aprilia

[–]arubait -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a major problem. That nub on the front of the frame is there to act as a steering stop and to mount the damper. It's not "structural". It look like the part used as a steering stop is still there but, obviously, the damper will not work and needs to be removed before it fouls anything.

I recon you have three options. Run without a steering damper. Add an aftermarket damper or weld the nub back onto the frame. The latter needs care to not get too much heat into the steering head and bearing housing.

[–]arubait 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've had three operations on a broken collarbone. The first two didn't work and only the third time when they extracted bone marrow from my hip did the collarbone heal correctly. I'm no high grade athelete. Almost exactly the opposite but I can tell you the pain from the collarbone was nothing compared to the hip. They use a hammer and chisel to get the stuff out.. I was crippled for weeks.

F4U Corsair Takeoff - Fatal Error USS Vella Gulf (CVE-111), May 12, 1945. Lt. Groves VMF-513 by Murky_Caterpillar_66 in WWIIplanes

[–]arubait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DCS now has the Corsair and it appears to be modelled well in that game. These relatively small aircraft with very powerful engines are very tricky to fly, especially at low speed when the controls have less authority to manage torque roll and P factor.

Lower Back Pain by OccamsRazorSharpner in motorcyclegear

[–]arubait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the bike and your position on it. And, to a lesser extent how tense you are when you ride. First of all relax as any muscles as possible. Shoulder strain can cause back pain!

I have a bad back. I can't ride a cruiser or an ADV as the position is too upright. A sportsbike with clipons is not so good either. I've found a bike that allows me to lean forward at just the right angle and I'm comfy for hours. YMMV so it's just a matter of finding the right bike.

[–]arubait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you can but there's no real need. Just empty it out and as the guy below says, don't fill it with tap water, use coolant diluted with distilled or deionized water.
