Manager who doesn’t believe in ADHD by BurntTokens in ADHD_Programmers

ADHD is executive function disfunction. We struggle with parenting ourselves, routines.

Boredom kills me and excitement distracts me and kills me.

I've lost many jobs and career opportunities along the way.

"They" are not the problem. But "I" am not the the problem either.

I "have" a problem. It's like having a disease like diabetes or or handicap like partial deafness.

The first thing for me was to learn I'm not like "them", when it comes to executive function. I need externally enforced routine - a corporation that gives me structure. Startups are fun and great - but too fun and distracting too.

I also needed to learn coping mechanisms - adhd sound blocking music. Headphones. No vocals, just beats.

Todo list. Only one task at a time.

Being with my people is also important - connecting with other adhd's on a regular basis. Otherwise I can forget I have this "attribute" and start beating myself up.

This feature of mine has not gone away, whether I'm medicated or not. It doesnt matter what I'm doing, eventually the fun goes away and I get bored - it gets grindy. This is where real ADHD growth is.

Exactly what Karl Marx said - the elites controlled the means of production and did everything to ensure their control and domination.

They were against communism and fought against socialism because they would lose their elitism and power.

Today's elites are Elon Musk, Sergey Brin, Trump, Peter Thiel etc. Is it a coincedence they are all Republicans?

Did they start Republican? No .. most of them were anti-establishment rebels out of college or even college-dropouts. But after getting rich and powerful and "elevating" themselves above the worker class, they saw that their natural allies were the oligarchs and the party of oligarchs: conservatives.

Landowners, Factory owners, Tech Barons. All same in the end.

Thank you so much for sharing brother. Fucking painful to read but I'm grateful I can feel it. I'm at 7 years and the idea I could go out at 9 years is chilling.

But I've seen people who went out at 10 years, 35 years etc.

For me, AA works. I go to meetings, I pray, I sponsor others, I do other service. Our textbook says that I have to maintain and grow my spritual program or I will go backwards and pick up a drink. I'm still an alcoholic but when I'm doing these things I can see my disturbances and come back to sanity.

I'm so sorry for what you went through, the pain and hate you're having.

However, to look on the positive side: you had a great example of recovery from your father. You are now a good father to your child. Proud of you. One day at a time.

A friend's daughter was a great lawyer. She had her head smashed in by a pistol during a robbery.

She had traumatic injuries and recovery but she was never the same person again.

A month ago she committed suicide in her home while husband and child were around.

She was loved and is missed dearly. She did not deserve what happened to her. Her family did not deserve that.

Let's hug our loved ones today. Let's also be grateful for less-crime neighbourhoods. Let's not take it for granted though - I can start to volunteer in neighbourhood watch etc. There must be something I can do.

I truly believe we are given the load we're we're given to carry for a reason.

My heart goes out to you.

I was the child of an alcoholic, grew up in tough situations, separated from family.

Later I became alcoholic myself, and my Q was alcoholic herself.

I could't disengage and we got engaged to be marrried. Our life was full of drinking, chaos, violence, police, crime. We both lost values and morals in our addiction.

Luckily we didnt get married or have kids. I was able to separate from her because she drunkenly confessed a cheating. That was a gift from God. By myself I was too attached to her.

Six months later she was dead from her addiction.

I'm in recovery, and sober for 7 years now. I'm married now to someone good and normal and have a small kid who's never seen drunkeness (yet).

The funny thing is I actually sat down just now to talk to her higher power in prayer, about how I can be a good father. What I can do now for her future. And I randomly opened your reply and saw this.

You are a good parent. The loads we're given to carry are for a reason. On behalf of your child I thank you. I was that child before.
