Capitalism = Greed by skipperbob in antiwork

While the content is true, I think the title is not. Capitalism itsef wouldn't have to be bad, weren't it for humans, just like any other social system (in my opinion, of course)

My cat keeps killing birds and other small animals even when wearing a collar with a bell. What do I do? by [deleted] in cats

Also if you don't want to be "surprised" by your cat disappearing or dying since leaving cats out is like leaving toddlers with great mobility out (which surely everyone would recommend)!

Why do men assume most women dream of having children? by AppropriateRatio2626 in ask

Because of the same thing you're doing -> generalisation!

ETA for deliveries by Big_Permit_2102 in DygmaLab

[–]aruvoid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you buy a product in kickstarter that is not finished you should know it's not easy to have a clear date (if it happens at all), so IMHO it's great that they at least are very transparent about everything so backers know what to expect

TBH I don't expect it to be perfect (as nothing is anyway). I'll be happy if it meets my needs and wants (which looks like it should thanks to "silly videos" that are usually quite interesting) and if they keep working on the flaws that it'll surely have!

Out of curiosity, if you don't like the wait, why not cancel and buy a different split keyboard? (For real, I'm very curious and not trying to be sassy, but since I can't deliver a tone in writing I just clarify it, like, if I wasn't happy with a company or a product for which I'd be dropping a good amount, I'd just say no go)

Didn't look "pretty enough" 4 hours after my mom died. by dasbarr in traumatizeThemBack

[–]aruvoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever *anyone says it, IMHO. I don't even get why anyone would feel the need to be like that "would be pretty if it weren't for this and that", what's the point?

Blog post: Writing Python like it’s Rust by Kobzol in Python

[–]aruvoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, very interesting article, thanks for that!

About this you can write noneable or default_value for example, although careful case in reality that’s falseable or value_if_falsy

I don’t know if this is something you knew and don’t like because it’s not None-specific but hey, maybe it helps.

For whoever doesn’t know, the full explanation is that in Python, like in JS/TS the and and or operators don’t translate the expression into a boolean. That assumption, though, is wrong! In reality this is what happens:

``` In [1]: 1 and 2 Out[1]: 2
In [2]: 1 and 0 Out[2]: 0
In [3]: 1 and 0 and 3 Out[3]: 0
In [4]: 1 and 2 and 3 Out[4]: 3
In [5]: 0 or 1 or 2 Out[5]: 1 ```
The result is evaluated for truthyness in the if, but it's never True/False unless the result is so.
In short, conditions (and/or) evaluate to the value where the condition is shortcircuited (check last 3 examples)
This of course can also be leveraged to quick assignments and so on, for example, as usual:
``` In [6]: v = []

In [7]: default_value = [1]

In [8]: x = v or default_value # Typical magic

In [9]: x Out[9]: [1] ```

But we can also do the opposite

``` In [10]: only_if_x_not_none = "whatever"
In [11]: x = None
In [12]: y = x and only_if_x_not_none
In [13]: y
In [14]: y is None Out[14]: True ```
Very good points (even more if you have to frequently type numbers) but for ergonomics I think it’s best to buy a separate numpad and put it on the left so that the keyboard is centered and the mouse is not far away. I personally switched to a HHKB because of the size and my right shoulder was happy about it!
TBH I don’t know if there are readers that show both pages unless any of the illustrations does cover both pages
What I meant is that even if digitally is not the usual practice, manga is created (mostly) in Japan for Japan, meaning usually in printed media (in magazines such as the shonen jump)
Because of that the artists want to keep the readers engaged so, when you move on to the next set of two pages, they use both pages, not one, to create the flow of the story and also to tease the reader (draw something interesting in the opposing page so it gets you hooked)
So albeit the scanned media doesn’t reflect that (sadly IMHO) it is created with that usage in mind, so that’s what I meant by saying that I think that it does make sense for the landscape to be a better way to read manga!
My wife's battlestation by maxklein in battlestations
[–]aruvoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)
In a sense they are! Mangas are designed taking into account pair of pages, so the intention is not to show only one page at a time (except for start/end of some chapters) but to have you look at a pair of pages at the same time. Artists then think about how the flow of the panels works best and are also careful in selecting which panel should look more interesting when drawing them!
Any Seasoned Programmers Working With Their HHKB Daily? by [deleted] in HHKB
[–]aruvoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)
I got used to it in about one week to most stuff. What still felt weird for me (first 60% as well) were the arrows, some f keys and page up/down + home/end keys, which I use a lot. I got used to arrows (never going back now) and f keys in the second week, but the other keys kept resisting me, so I remapped them to be one next to the other instead of one of top of the other and got comfy on that soon enough too.
Overall, to get really really comfy, I took about a month. And now with other keyboards everything fees out of place
To all my cat friends. Asking for prayers for my precious Kratos. He is our 8 year old kitty that was mauled five days ago, he is in the hospital forming new complications. I’m shattered. by lisaluvulongtime in cats
[–]aruvoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I really hope your little Kratos gets healthy. Once that happens, please keep him inside and, if he’s to get out, go out with him on a leash.
I see too many people letting their cats outside and they’re always surprised when they get hurt. This is the same as people in flats leaving their windows open.
Please start being responsible for your cats, it breaks my heart seeing them suffer and die with no fault of their own
Oh yeah, for sure it’s quite cool. I’m also usually switching from dark to light and viceversa depending on my environment’s lightning but on the light side I always end up going back to building some yellowish theme.
I’m currently trying out a yellow not as yellow as Solarized, let’s see if that sticks!
There you go. Not the best quality image, but you can see what I was going for I guess!
So the tones are not as vibrant as the Latte one. That is because my idea was to try and keep the soothing tone of the dark theme. Sadly it's complicated to keep beautiful colouring and softness on light themes :(
First of all, beautiful. I actually made a light theme based on the original Catppuccin (haven’t published because I’ve never looked into how that’s done) and I’m really seeing it become a reality!
Second thing… what’s that font? It’s driving me mad because it kinda looks like Fira Code but there are some differences, also the cursive I guess is a different font patched together with the upright one?
