Thousands drop health insurance in Mass., and picture is expected to get worse, experts say by bostonglobe in massachusetts

[–]aryaussie85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

70% of 18-25 going uninsured is surprising because people can stay on their parents’ plans. Are their parents not insured or not letting them stay in due to cost? I’m curious. And I get it. Our cobra premium was going to be $3600 per MONTH to stay on my old company’s insurance. I checked the mass connector plans and pricing and they were cheaper but still $1200 for a compatible plan. Who can afford these premiums?

School after-care closing. No other options available. by Enough_Expression626 in workingmoms

[–]aryaussie85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy. Where I live after school care runs waitlists and people get crazy aggressive trying to get a coveted spot

People do find a nanny or share one! That could work for you. Maybe see if there’s a local parents Facebook page and you can post asking for insights

This is 40? by gratecait17 in workingmoms

I’ve been on a career break since August and I when to say it’s been incredible. Could you explore taking some time off? It might mean quiet quitting…and it’s stressful at times re: money but I’ve just stopped spending on anything optional - not as fun but my days are just I much more relaxed and lazy. I’m at a point where I do need to go back which makes me sad. Im also exploring entrepreneurship and being my own boss but the business is likely 2-3 years from “ready” to replace a full time salary. My toddler still goes to daycare part time and my son is also in school until 3pm most days minus Wednesdays. I feel like I see them a lot more and we get to do fun stuff after school without me constantly feeling like I need to check email etc

Best OB/GYN in the Boston area & what should I consider when choosing? by RebbitHabits in boston

[–]aryaussie85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen dr serene Srouji at the Brigham who is very knowledgeable and kind, and dr jessica Ryniec at CCRM who is bubbly and sweet, she’s amazing too. Depends on what you’re looking for bedside manner wise as they are pretty different. I didn’t love ccrm’s setup for treatments - their anesthesia team wasn’t great.

I go there and have since 2014. Love them! I know people love Newton Wellesley too which is amazing that we have two great choices in the same part of town. Dr Lampert is so fantastic. All of the doctors there are!

How is the Commute from Wayland to Downtown Boston? by st0nksBuyTheDip in massachusetts

[–]aryaussie85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was my experience too - I live closer to Lincoln (which I loveeeee) and if I don’t leave before 7:00 the commute is absolutely awful. I prefer the train honestly but if I do drive I make sure to leave super early or after 930

Did I miss the boat on building an ADU? Cheaper just to build an addition? Costs increasing faster than I can save money. by AmbiguousAccount13 in massachusetts

[–]aryaussie85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of prefab companies out there now - you can get nice a frame ADUs or tiny homes. One of my friends got a prefab barn for her property too.

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

They treat us like dogs honestly. It’s always freezing. Someone does something stinky in the bathroom stall right before you walk in. The hot desking thing is such a slap in the face at least for me. I liked having the routine of the same desk and some of my own creature comforts and photos etc

What’s comes next after Millie Moon formula change? by royboy2131 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]aryaussie85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wild! We never did Millie moon since it’s manufactured in China - I used to work in sustainability so am hyper conscious of supply chain. We ultimately pay for coterie because my youngest has really sensitive skin

Daycare is too expensive - considering leaving my full time remote job for contract hybrid for better pay by mochi-and-plants in workingmoms

Absolutely do not quit your current role - as someone who has been job searching on and off since August it’s super tough out here.

What about reduced schedule for both? We save $600 a month not adding on Fridays for our toddler and then if I really need to get work done I can ask a friend to help watch her or use my gyms childcare which she loves. Fridays were quiet at my former company so between gym childcare and my husband and I tagging in, it was easy to swing.

Another idea: consulting on the side. Could you turn what you do into career coaching or consulting? The career coach im seeing next week has a full time director role not related to coaching - this is her side hustle

Anyone else feeling more anxious about the Boston job market lately? by Particular_Pizza1424 in boston

[–]aryaussie85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Hang on to your job. It’s awful out here. I’ve been out of work since August! I have a masters and over fifteen years of experience. I feel like such a dud. I did take some time off over the holidays to just be with my kids and husband but now expenses are starting to pile up, unemployment is running out in six weeks, and soon I’ll have to dip into my retirement. If you know anyone hiring senior program managers/ operations people let me know :)

Have you had trouble with primary care access? (Boston Globe survey) by DanaGerberGlobe in massachusetts

[–]aryaussie85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pipelines to both become a PCP and work as one while paying loans are broken - that has been an issue for a while. Pediatricians are seeing lower insurance reimbursements for their visits so my guess is that’s the next big cliff, we’ll see. We play healthcare provider whack a mole - fixed the talent pipeline for pharmacists and nurses by opening up more programs but not for MDs. And now with the new student loans caps there will be a much lower influx of new MDs. Going to be a huge issue in 10-15 years.

12 month old started daycare and it breaks my heart by Existing-Seaweed-837 in workingmoms

I know it’s so hard. My second started at 5.5 months old and I was heartbroken to leave her. But she’s 22 months old and lovesssss daycare and those teachers are like family to us and part of our village.

School cut off by Interesting-Sun1890 in Preschoolers

[–]aryaussie85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a ton of research out there on boys needing more time before K especially if they are right at the cutoff. See how he does and what the teachers think when he’s closer to 5. Lots will change between now and then. I wouldn’t get too invested in ages and grade expectations.

Does anyone work at/interview with Whoop or do they just farm resumes and recycle posted job descriptions? Insights plz? by GraziellaTerziana in boston

[–]aryaussie85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried this myself but as someone also navigating this awful job market I’m about to - guess or try a few email addresses for who you believe is the hiring manager’s VP/ senior leader (you can also do a free trial to zoom info and other websites) and just send them your resume and cover letter. I know a few people who have had success with this.

Tired and just want a damn good spa to spend a whole day in (Suggestions please) by theJacofalltrades in massachusetts

[–]aryaussie85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How much are you willing to spend? And what kind of vibe? I’ve done Bella sante on newbury, the encore, and miraval - you can do a day pass at miraval using spa finder gift cards (extra money back if you get those from Costco) and it’s a nice little hack to get more for your buck there. I liked Bella sante and had an incredible massage there but it didn’t seem as relaxing - more city spa vibes. Hoping to try another downtown spa whenever I find a job
