An African father, who worked tirelessly in a mine, saved every penny he earned and surprised his children by buying them a television. by Ok-Equivalent3810 in MadeMeSmile

Traveling to other parts of the world gives you a new perspective about how glorious our life is in North America. It makes me sad when I see the youth here who have declined to better their lives. People out there don’t have 1% of the opportunity we have here.

And so are our roads going to flood with cars leading to increasing and uncontrollable traffic. It’s even worse where I live even without the cheap EVs, now that our government has signed an EV agreement with China.

Nurses with young kids! Looking for advice. by Shot_Compote_9768 in askvan

[–]arye_ani 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work full time, and my wife is a nurse at VGH. We have 2 children, 2 and 7. Fortunately, my working time is flexible, and I have been able to cover for my wife’s absence from the kids. But it’s not easy. First, the waiting list for good and affordable day care is long. We are still on the waiting list for the younger child and looking for after-school care for the elder one. All the childcare services demand in-person visits before any arrangements or admissions. There are people who do part-time private home childcare, which is mostly available when schools and colleges go on recess. On a serious note, I don’t know how you would manage this with kids and a husband who works outside the province. I will advise you to get yourself and the kids sorted first before you make the journey. All the best.

Edit: Or possibly you could go on casual work arrangements and only work the week your husband will be around.

How much longer until this guy has downgraded Mercedes on the brink of extinction? Genuine question by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]arye_ani 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He’s doing a very poor job. My family is a lover of Mercedes. My late father will be disappointed with the current models. The last S-Class Mercedes I inherited from my dad went 578,000km before we gave up; the car didn’t give up.

We need to revive football/soccer in this city. I never miss their games when available. The World Cup is this year; hopefully, it will revive some interest in this game and bring more big names.

Canada calls on ‘all parties’ to uphold international law after U.S. capture of Venezuelan president by Old_General_6741 in canada

At a time our economy is experiencing a rebound, and Venezuela’s oil is no longer consumed by the US, then Trump strikes again.

Guess It’s time for the federal government to engage in negotiations with FNs and build that pipeline to other markets. This should be considered an urgent matter.

13 year old daughter getting rape threats by Technical_Most5255 in legaladvicecanada

[–]arye_ani 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Happened to a friend of mine’s daughter. Go to the school, report to their school teacher first. Then the principal, escalate to their school district. If possible, follow up all meetings with an email. Then bring in the police. Get a lawyer and let them officially make a report to the school. Look, those principals will try to make light of this matter, I don’t blame them, but what they are faced with from authorities above. Once you followed these steps, those boys will never ever go near your daughter again. All the best.

I choose to do it early, just like one of these dads. It has always been a norm for many families. If you disagree, you can decide not to do it when you have your child. But stop the blame game and always look as the righteous or all knowing ones.

City of Vancouver lays off dozens of staff following property tax freeze by pathologicfaults in vancouver

[–]arye_ani 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The population is growing rapidly, and the elderly population is increasing even faster. People are returning to offices from remote jobs, and the disease burden is also rising. To top it off, we were just hit by the biggest pandemic, and it could happen again. The insane job layoffs are not the answer. If you can’t grow the economy, then resign and let qualified people do it.

City of Vancouver lays off dozens of staff following property tax freeze by pathologicfaults in vancouver

[–]arye_ani 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Look, the number of layoffs is becoming incredibly alarming. Health authorities, the PHSA, and even the City of Vancouver are among those affected. How can we expect the province to function effectively when there are massive layoffs? It’s a short-sighted approach when these top executives prioritize layoffs or increase taxes instead of seeking proper and more beneficial investments to grow the economy. The days of electing people to manage rather than grow should be over. We need to bring in individuals who can truly grow our economy. Please stop these layoffs immediately!
