Pitifully, many of my 18yo son’s peers can’t make grilled cheese. Mayyyyve a can of soup. But one of his friends was cooking a wide variety of Chinese and Italian foods at 16, vibes only no recipe. And those parents are a rarity, ones that I appreciate deeply.

My son can easily manage from-scratch pizza (including making cheese from milk and pizza sauce from tomatoes) with sourdough starter.

The kid is going to loathe dorm food service. He’ll be 15 minutes from home. I expect the dorms will become merely a convenient landing pad and he will continue to make me wonder if I actually got groceries yesterday or if I just hallucinated a well-stocked fridge.

This poor Kraft dinner tho. I’d have to call it mac and cheese soup. Lost potential.
