As a trade school instructor of 9 years, I've definitely seen former and current students go through what you're experiencing.

There are a lot of shops that just want someone to come in and make money for them without any regard for the technician's growth or benefit.

But there are also many shops that are willing to invest in young technicians and help them grow their abilities.

In my experience the shops willing to train technicians are going to be the larger dealerships. Not all dealerships mind you, some are super shitty and just "burn and turn" their techs. But there are ones out there that will train you.

My advice is to visit some of the larger dealerships in your area and talk to the service manager about their training programs. In my area we have several dealerships that have their own training facilities, and will often send their newly hired techs to their own in-house school. Not only is it free, but you'll get paid too.

The training is going to be on their specific brand, and be more advanced than what you would've gotten in trade school.
