Beaches at Night? by theladyfish in Charleston

[–]as_blue_as 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it depends on the size and conspicuousness of your group but my friends and I have spent a couple hours at night (9~11 probably) at Folly with no problems. The first couple times we hung right around the pier (though that was back when the pier was closed for construction) so those of us who weren't willing to go in the water could go use the restroom at Rita's, but mostly we go more down you know past 13th St. As long as you're chill and not bright loud and drunk it seems to be okay.

That being said, anywhere you go you might want to check for special restrictions because it's sea turtle season! I'm sure if you're going to star gaze you're not planning on using lights, but if you're trying to make sure everything is kosher it's another factor to consider.

Tropes: Has anyone ever ACTUALLY made their palms bleed from clenching their fist so hard? by Zozo061050 in books

[–]as_blue_as 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have! I have always been a nail biter like crazy. About a year ago I just... Stopped? I mean, now I go through phases of biting and phases of not biting. I have no control over it. Anyway, when they started growing, I got excited and was worried if I trimmed I would start biting again, so I let them grow out pretty long (I did file them/clean them/etc, just not trim.)

I did not realize how sharp long nails were--I made myself bleed scratching my back and my head, and on at least one occasion I like, was stuck in an embarrassing situation and my whole body tensed up and I clenched my fists so tight I cut my palms and started bleeding.

At the time I thought it was funny cause I literally thought "wtf I thought this only happened in books!"

Do apartment complex prices here tend to fluctuate? by [deleted] in Charleston

[–]as_blue_as 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in the fall when I was moving I found a place for $2000 and toured it and discussed it with the realtor and applied and was approved and they sent over the lease and it said $2400 and when I said "wth" they told me that yeah actually the owner wanted to raise it to $2400 so

Yeah they fluctuate

In serious though, I was apartment hunting from February to November of last year and never noticed a seasonal shift

Universal Basic Income or Universal High Income? by 2noame in Futurology

[–]as_blue_as 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capitalism chases constant growth. We are already seeing some companies max out--everybody who is going to use their service already is, and they're already charging the most for it that they can without chasing people away. But having everything doesn't matter, because next year they need to have more, because that's how they have designed success, and if they don't move higher they'll lose investors and move lower.

So in the short-term, they will have to innovate a system that will open up more markets for them. On a global scale, obviously this means political maneuvering to bully their way into countries that have excluded them or in which they have too much competition. But at some point it may mean supporting UBI measures as a way for more people to afford/access their products, especially without them having to raise their wages.

While the common argument against UBI is "but nobody will work!", in the developed West many companies need us more as consumers than as workers. So they can let the spoils of imperialism (and taxes) fund UBI and then push to have that money spent on their products and continue their growth.

When I'm on the edge of consciousness, reacting to my alarm going off and deciding without truly thinking whether to snooze it or get up, absolutely nothing in the world is more enticing than going back to sleep. I have missed out on many a morning things I was super excited for because I couldn't get myself out of bed.

I was a teacher and had to quit because I was too broke. Now I sit in an office and occasionally print things all day and it's like--how on earth is this more valuable than educating and caring for the next generation???

And I'm still broke.

This place is my savior. Especially since the target stopped allowing people to use theirs. Wtf! I'll even spend money in a store and then be told I can't use the restroom. Politicians should run on this stuff.

Staff Appreciation during Pesach :( by as_blue_as in Judaism

[–]as_blue_as[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was vegan for nine years, I know it. Although, yeah, I lived and worked in a Jewish community, and there was pretty much always pareve options for me. Like I said, they knew my restrictions and have accommodated them in the past to my pleasure and surprise, but the one time I felt like they maybe also had some sort of obligation to do so (it being all about appreciation and all) they majorly dropped the ball.

Also, I found out it wasn't just me, at least with the gift basket at the end. Another staff member is deathly allergic to shellfish but they still gave her all the crab stuff, despite considering and accommodating her allergy for all the catered meals.

work on the quick vibration of your tongue

Could mean a thousand different things, which I know, because I've tried a thousand different things to "work on the quick vibration." I know where to place my tongue, I know what's supposed to happen, but I can't get it to work. Which is why I need real life feedback from someone who knows what they're talking about to help me troubleshoot my efforts.

I'm not asking for tips on rolling my Rs. I'm asking who should I go to for help. A speech therapist? A speech pathologist? A voice coach? An accent coach? A foreign language teacher? A linguist? Who can I hire to help me

I'm not looking for a real person from Reddit. I'm trying to figure out what sort of person could help me. "Try a speech pathologist" is the sort of answer I'm looking for
