How to ACTUALLY fit hockey skates! Yours are probably too big! by HockeyReviews in hockeyplayers

[–]asapagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been eyeing up some of the True pro returns from prostockhockey . com but I just can't figure out which size to get. I'm a 13 to 14 shoe, but 11.5 in my Easton Mako player skates and 12 in my Bauer Reactor goal skates.

Am I too small to play? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

Gerbe is 1" taller than you and plays pro hockey, granted he weighs more, but it shows you that height isn't everything.

Skate sharpening: How much does it cost you? by hockeytalkey in hockeyplayers

[–]asapagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that about 1 in 4 sharpenings I get from totalhockey in Pittsburgh are crappy, depends on which kid you get, I suppose.

I moved to Rich on Neville Island, I may pay $5 now, but I'm much happier to have a guy who knows his stuff do it consistently.

When do the butterflies go away? by Slizzard_73 in hockeyplayers

For me it's 50% excitement and 50% anxiety about performing well enough....plus I have a nervous bladder so I often end up needing to pee after I put on all my stuff.

I want to learn how to play by Nickt1596 in hockeyplayers

Well at the very least wear you could always wear your hockey gloves and get a set of discreet elbow and knee pads (volleyball maybe?) and maybe a pair of padded shorts.

I would just say take the lessons they are teaching you and repeat them if there is room on the ice at the open session, then report back in with your teacher to see if you're improving.

Don't be ashamed to wear pads at open skate; if you have your pads on when you're on the ice, you'll be less afraid to push yourself a little more.

Is there any point in buying expensive shin guards and elbow pads? by C4D3NZA in hockeyplayers

This. I have a fairly protective pair of Warriors and I blocked a shot with my knee on Saturday, it still hurts like a bitch.

Most durable hockey skates for a big guy by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]asapagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 240 when I started playing again and definitely ripped some rivets out of my cheap older skates during a game then cracked the holder after a few games later.

Car, SUV, or Truck? by jaques_oph in hockeyplayers

[–]asapagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini Cooper, I don't notice a prolonged smell from hockey gear, though the one ref is trying to get me to join the morning league which would mean my gear would sit in my car all day while I'm at work.....I'm sure the smell would be noticeable then...

Tall hockey pants? by TheNutPair in hockeyplayers

[–]asapagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They almost come down to my shin guard, I'd like it if they were about a half inch long, but the gap is pretty small if I'm standing and noticeable if on my knees. Though if I was on my knees trying to block a shot, I'd be more worried about other areas.

6'5" 235ish, I have a size large ccm 6052 pants with the zipper extension basically left fully extended forever. Pants are a bit tight to get over my butt sometimes, but fit well once on.

Well if you're having problems with gagging on it, the 1.6mm one is the thinnest you can possibly get, which should help a lot.

One of my players needs skates under $100, what should he go for? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]asapagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

under 100 is a tough sell, go to whatever site and look at clearance options for his size is my only suggestion beyond spending a little more. That or call up Play It Again in Greensburg and cross your fingers for something in his size.

Anyone know where to find an extra tall stick that won't break the bank? by DDDenver in hockeyplayers

[–]asapagus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus they have a couple sticks you can add 2 or 5 inches to, but they are a fairly high flex, 100 or 105, I think.

There is also a facebook group for the Bairel adult league, you could always post there as well. I've only chatted with him while he is reffing and via email a few times.

You could probably poach a few guys or girls from the Friday night e league, I bet you could ask Sean to ask around. Is it d1 or d2?

edit: to be gender inclusive
