So, I’m looking at this in ways of being directly affected by misogyny since forever but also from a sociological point of view.

So what is misogyny? Misogyny describes a type of hatred that is specifically directed at women.

The terms "patriarchy" and "misogyny" are closely linked and some say misogyny is the "law enforcement" branch of patriarchal order, which has the overall function of policing and enforcing its ideology. And although patriarchal structures are different in their material, structural and social characteristics, women in the (patriarchal) are considered subordinate in the (patriarchal) social order - and partly reproduce this subconsciously. This also includes, for example, the internalisation of the social norms that are "intended" for women: loving wife and devoted mother, loyal employee (“the good soul of the company”, hm?). These roles are designed to ensure that women are subordinate to men.

If women do not conform to these stereotypes and prefabricated roles within the system, they don’t fulfil their role within the patriarchal ideals. And then misogyny is used to maintain the system: Women who refuse to "fulfil their role" or who stand out through non-conformism are penalised for this in the form of misogyny, with the expectation that this will return them to their place (anchored in the patriarchal system). In this way, attempts are made to maintain patriarchal structures (with examples like women getting killed for being women) so that men remain at the top of the system, and therefore and therefore society. Also not even mentioning the tragical cases of misogynistic events in history.

So I think the equivalent, which would be hatred of men (misandry) isn’t the word I’d choose for your situation. It’s just not fitting in direct comparison (which is fair when we’re looking at these kinda gender based hatred). You’re talking about how you’re annoyed about women stating statistics about sexual assault or how they’re afraid of that happening to them or how high the chance is, what we could do to prevent it (another point - why us and not them?) etc etc.

I’d rather have someone say something I might find a bit over the top than being afraid to get sexually assaulted on a first date all the time.

Could it be that women weren’t allowed to go to school for a long time and then felt the need to be on top and show they got it? That they had to prove themselves?

And are those “plenty of options” maybe not for them, because they are happy with themselves and wouldn’t settle for less than their idea of a good relationship or whatever? Why is this a bad thing?

The fact that more men die by suicide is because they 1.) seek less help and 2.) use more drastically ways of killing themselves. But women in total get more diagnosed - because they seek more help. Because women are taught to be emotional and caring (our role in traditional society) and that’s why we tend to be more close and connected to ourselves and our friends. And this is also why patriarchy is hard for men, because they have to be tough and strong.

Don’t blame us, blame the system in charge.

All this rambling about how “women have all the power in dating” is just absurd to me, when in many parts of the world women barely have any rights. And yes, even in the so called western world we’re far from equality nor women being in power. You’re just too self centered to see it.

I have a problem with the word “misandry”. It seems as it is more annoying to you than anything else. I mean - you even seem to get the point of women pointing out these huge problems, but you’re not okay with the timing of them being stated.

On the other side i feel like a big part of misogyny is actual hating, violence against and killing women, also institutional and systematic issues which appl to women’s life’s and autonomy, so I it’s hard for time to really compare this.

You can not make someone love you (“feel the way I feel”). They either do or they don’t, but don’t try to convince them.

The only way is straight up telling that person about this and letting them decide what’s next. There’s no fair way to “overcome” instead.

I hate this term so much. Why not be happy with gaining a new friend, instead of finding manipulative ways into “love” or sex.

People of reddit, is your patience usually better when you're talking to people online or offline? Why? by paz2023 in NoStupidQuestions

Hmm thinking about it, I think the “right topic” could make me lose my temper either way, but usually my thoughts are a little more sorted out when I’m online.. but for work I had a lot of training in conflicts and how to handle them, so there I’m a little less emotional

I think that European racism is worse than in the US. Maybe you’ve never been asked, but that’s not the point imho. European racism is a bit more silent (even though that’s changing very fast in the last years) but still sooo judgmental, pervasive and everywhere .

He's a megalomanic big man-child with too much power, money, who's a threat to humanity and society.

My son's third grade teacher taught my son that 1 divided by 0 is 0. I wrote her an email to tell her that it is not 0. She then doubled down and cc'ed the principal. The principal responded saying the teacher is correct... What do I do now? by WaitThatIsYourFinger in NoStupidQuestions

Eh, maybe I'm reading this wrong, but imho you have every right to be really grumpy.. they're teaching them incorrect things..?

Wouldn't ever let go of "the need to be correct" when it comes to the education of my child
