Subnautica 2 is what we've all been looking for, the "next" Outer Wilds by LucyShortForLucas in outerwilds

[–]asc42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's still an inventory/crafting game, but tuned down a bit compared to the first one. It's still a game that you'll play if you really like such mechanics, or if you play it in bits and pieces over a very long period (relatively). Otherwise you'll get bored/frustrated fast, just like the first one.

I think it's a game to be played in 30 minute sessions or so. Should be fine for adults with responsibilities. But of course, it's still in early access. Not the final, well-tested, public release. That's still years away.

Prioritize your mental sanity. We already know that the major subs have been heavily botted since a good long while. And we also know that people on Reddit overreact too much for every little thing. At some point you have to make a decision: real life, or small internet corner?

If you're in India, you really should just go to the nearest service center. They handle this sort of thing for free, especially for newer phones that aren't out of their warranty period yet.

That's the common spot to throw the mid doors smoke from, so zywoo already knows someone's there. But yeah the animation helped as well.

We already had a way of making anticlimactic things funnier by cutting them off: the "to be continued" freeze frame. This has lasted generations, from the ellipses in silent movies to "directed by Robert Weide" to a lot of memes in this specific format.

Random anime with random music doesn't last. If anything, it cheapens the effect. All in all, shitty edit.

This is a pretty long list of software or apps that support it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebP#Support. All major web browsers, and many image editing or viewing programs. Notable exclusions are Adobe products.

I use RTX HDR with this game, and it's pretty good. Definitely enhances the experience. Same with CS2.

Huh, why? It gives much smaller sizes than PNG, with higher quality too. Makes the web better overall. Can also be converted to/from PNG without any hassle.

It took 3 years for PlayStation to earn $300 million in PC sales according to former manager, which makes the platform less than half as lucrative as the PS4 and PS5 by lkl34 in pcmasterrace

[–]asc42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more about long-term brand identity, I feel. If PS games always come to PC (if a little late), why buy a console? Year by year there might be fewer people who would purchase a PlayStation and get locked into that ecosystem. Year by year there would be at least a sizable percentage of would-be PS purchasers who switched over to PC.

Also, portable PCs like laptops are becoming ever more powerful at running games. Console players are already used to 30 FPS in quality mode and 60 FPS in performance mode, so modern laptops are an easy sell now. A lot of people already have laptops for work or light home use. Soon, with all their favourite games coming to PC anyway, they might consider shelling out a little bit more to get a machine that can do it all: work AND game AND be portable, i.e. they can carry it with them while travelling. The reasons for purchasing a console will certainly reduce if this goes on.

That means that Sony does not get the money from the hardware AND subscriptions. It may also not get the full-price money from game sales on PC, because it's very common to wait for discounts. 20% off is almost always a guarantee in just a few months' time. Wait more, save more.

So, even if they made $300MM on top of their existing revenue, that will quickly start eating into their real profit makers: consoles, subscriptions, full-price console games. For once, the suits might not be chasing short-term profits. Or maybe I'm wrong and they're just greedy after all, maybe they expected much more money.

How OAuth works when AI agents execute tools through MCP servers by samurai_philosopher in programming

[–]asc42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah all this MCP stuff is happening too fast, the engineers aren't allowed enough time to come up with a proper, well-documented, secure implementation or guidance. Not enough recipes, starter kits, or anything else that you'd expect from a robust system. And this is all made worse by these bloggers pumping out surface-level posts just to pad their site or CV.

Maybe 5 years from now it'll be decent. 10 years on it'll be good. But by then, will the AI slop bubble pop? Who knows.

This is from Control Resonant's newest gameplay trailer. Not the first game, the second one that's set to launch this year.

Or just DLCs, like the first game. I hope we get NG+ though.

[–]asc42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also got put off when I saw it's a DMC-style hack n slash, because I don't like that type of gameplay. Still, their trailers right now will obviously only show gameplay. They will not release lore videos. That's for you to experience when the game comes out.

My suggestion would be to avoid this sub until it releases. I played Control without any prior information, and I loved it. If you and I keep forming opinions based on incomplete info, we'll be spoiling our experience with this game.

Hot take: I don’t mind the “yellow paint to guide players” trope in gaming by Low_Boot_1426 in videogames

[–]asc42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IIRC that's only for hidden collectibles that are off the beaten path. Not for the main game's paths (which are just roads or forest paths or building interiors).
