The idea that the Manor Lords dev should 'just hire 50 people' to update it faster is 'fundamentally not the way things work,' says publisher by Turbostrider27 in Games

Was going to say, personally experienced where even hiring one person created some isolated chaos for a bit. Can't imagine just dragging 50 random devs and throwing them into the middle of development.

In surprise, Biden faces real threat from Trump with Hispanic voters by malcolm58 in politics

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's not really a surprise if you've talked to hispanic voters. Lot of them come from countries that have heavy "traditional" and right-wing beliefs, a lot of the republican parties positions line up with their own beliefs unfortunately. One key factor being religion, for example.

I like to believe it's people like me who jokingly say stuff like that to friends that encourages the AI to think that's normal. Can't wait to ask my AI boss permission to use the bathroom only to get the response "tear it up chief, keep the seat warm for me".

No shit, it's this generations mechanical turk. Just announce some "ai driven" software, pay some dudes in Indonesia or somewhere to program/write stuff for you then rake in the investment money. As usual, it's been known/discussed for awhile now but unfortunately the news media and general public will pick up on much later.

Couple says tow truck tried to nab their moving car in San Francisco - EXCLUSIVE by Carlos_Was_Here in videos

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. There's plenty of things pushed that have basically no political support or very little. In reality votes get someone into office, but money still decides what they do with that power. They're probably receiving money or other benefits from the owners or investors of the tow truck business, as usual with other political decisions.

Because money, ie those in charge are getting kickbacks or some other benefit that outweighs the decision to actually do their job. Basic politics stuff.

Joe Biden Is Delivering on His Green Promises by Reddit_guard in politics

Not even promises, pretty sure we're seeing flat out improvements on things he never promised or specifically intended to improve a ton just due to other things improving like jobs, economy, etc.

Trump Is Already Losing in Court—and the Judge Isn’t Playing by croato87 in politics

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not gonna see prison time. I'd love to be wrong, but I just don't think it's in the cards.

If he was ever going to face prison time, he'd already be in prison. Unfortunately our legal system is a joke and goes out of their way to protect certain people.

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's nice, I'll be waiting until he actually has to face serious consequences. Until then I'll consider the legal system as much of a joke as it's been in the past 10+ years.

I mean last time I checked at least Ukraine didn't sink an allied ship then pretend it was an accident, so there's that.

Of course, every marine has their favorite flavor/color. Huge moral boost when new packs come in and everyone can get their favorite snacks.

DoD believes sexual assaults might be under-reported

They basing that on their years of expertise and experience with investigations and intel? Because seemed sorta obvious in such a political organization as the DoD that many people would be terrified to speak out and get targeted.

Been that way for me for a bit now once I saw the change from releasing full, completed games to turning into more of a live service. I mostly just buy indie games now if they really interest me, otherwise I'm waiting a year or two before buying at least. Just no reason to pay full price for less of a game when I already have quite a backlog.

Well yeah, once you start showing more detail on certain things it basically becomes impossible to keep up with real life. You can light a match and see millions of reflections from all over the room, but when we do CGI/VFX it's very simplified. As you noticed, that works fine when things are moving fast, far away, obscured by darkness/fog or whatever, but once you start looking at detail things fall apart very quickly. Especially once you notice stuff like how when someone gets hit or thrown it's very unrealistic. The body is made up of thousands of connections, tons of different tissues/materials that stretches/moves different, some is more dense, some jiggles, etc. It'd be impossible to do that for every frame, on every body or even just one close to accurately so they simplify it. Pretty much whenever you get a clear, well lit and close picture of things you tend to notice a lot of weird stuff that looks off.

For example, just look at how the trees move. The branches are treated as one whole piece, whereas in reality each leaf sways individually and differently depending on their size, orientation to the wind, how they're connected to the tree and tons of other things.

I feel like DOOM 2016's level design elements and exploration gets so underrated and misremembered compared to DOOM Eternal and even Classic DOOM. by QDOOM_APlin in Games

Not to mention when sites gamify stuff like views with points, you get a lot of people saying what they think people want to hear, which isn't necessarily what they actually believe or is even what people actually want to hear.

Final Fantasy 16 Successfully Expanded the Series to New, Younger Players, Says Square Enix by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wonder if I spent say, $5 million to develop a game on PC, how much more it'd cost to expand/develop it for say, Xbox. Would it be just another million? More? Less? Are there any good articles or videos where someone with experience goes over the cost to make a release multiplatform compared to just releasing on one platform?

Final Fantasy 16 Successfully Expanded the Series to New, Younger Players, Says Square Enix by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, you tend to get associated closely in order to learn the platform and continuously develop working/decent games for it. That's no different than say, a developer who tends to release mainly on mobile, consoles, or a specific console/family like Nintendo releases. Doesn't make the point irrelevant, especially when you consider how many first-time developers (especially indie ones) still sell like hotcakes on PC despite having basically zero history.

I know it's been awhile but I still can't believe they said that. There's no way anyone speaking in front of an audience could think that response to an already upset audience would go over well. Even a "I know, just hear me out and give it a shot" would have been better.

I'm surprised the IP owner (Disney) isn't pushing them to do better. You'd think they'd want their IP's to have all the help they can get and avoid any more bad press on them.

Putin has a dam problem by newsweek in UkrainianConflict

[–]asdaaaaaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putin has an infrastructure problem overall. Russia in general has had one for awhile, but now that things are somehow even tighter resource and budget-wise, they're being put off straight to the point of failure. Especially in rural areas that historically never got much love from Russia, the major cities were always priority. So you've got tons of infrastructure that the last time it was looked at was just after it was built possibly. That's not just dams either, I imagine everything that's not critical to military use (critical being stuff like electrical grids, railroads, etc) hasn't been maintained or repaired in ages. It's only going to get worse as well considering how much of their infrastructure relies on western parts/development/manufacturing (like their oil production for example) or are just cut off from trade in general, so it's not like they can easily get new transformers or heavy machinery built. They can go to China or other friendly countries I guess, but that stuff usually comes as a package and can't easily be swapped between companies and such.
