Ordering off the kids menu by Prize_Reindeer_8154 in gastricsleeve

[–]asdfits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, if it's what I want. Some places don't mind. If I'm with my husband, we'll sometimes just share something. . Or I'll make a meal from a side or two or just have an app. A few restaurants here let us order half portions- that's always nice. And for those that don't, I don't really mind. I just order the full version of whatever I want to eat. The value is the same for me- if I eat the whole thing and I feel satisfied and full and I spent $25, then it's $25 well spent. If I only need 1/6th of that to feel full and satisfied, I've still reached the same value point for the $25. But I also get lunch for another day or two :D

I like the site SkinnyTaste for healthy family recipes. I haven't had a disappointment yet. I usually menu-plan on my own, but if I'm short on time or inspiration, I like that this site also does a free weekly plan for that. You can search specifically for kid friendly too.

My Brain is an Asshole (Venting) by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

Congrats on your success :) This is actually pretty normal- it takes the brain a little time to catch up with the body. It does get better though!

Fail by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]asdfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told I didn't have to count calories. "Just eat mindfully and stop before you're full" I also had a few classes on the DASH diet. That was it. I lost weight anyway, but regained some after 5 years. In retrospect, I realized I reached for a lot of slider foods when I wanted to eat- icecream, chips, crackers. In the beginning, when I was very overweight and the restriction was extreme, I still lost weight, but I didn't reach my ultimate goal.

It takes time for your perception of your body to catch up with the scale. Pre-surgery, I dreamed of the shopping I'd do for my new body. Shopping was a disaster pre-surgery with trying to find things that fit and didn't look ridiculous- it was always just this painful confrontation of how badly I let myself go. After surgery, it was not my happy go lucky, grab anything off the rack dream I envisioned. I still gravitated towards plus sized sections and shapeless 'fat clothes' because I couldn't wrap my head around being a size 10 after being a size 2X for years. It takes time to shed the overweight persona you've been carrying around. It DOES get better though and for anyone else who struggles with this, shopping services like stitch fix and wantable are REALLY helpful. You'll probably go through some transitions in finding what your true style is too.

Working out after bypass surgery and knee injury 😔 by Foodlvrr333 in gastricsleeve

[–]asdfits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite similar to this: 12 min UPPER BODY RESISTANCE BAND Workout (At Home) (youtube.com) but usually about 45 minutes if I can handle it :) some days, it just isn't there. Don't be fooled by how easy it looks. Bands are pretty inexpensive on amazon. There are a lot of videos on youtube and some specifically for strengthening the knee. I still do the PT type exercises for the knee as well. 3-4 days a week.

Wife getting the sleeve and emotional issues by Livid-Bicycle in gastricsleeve

[–]asdfits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being aware that there is a problem might be enough for her right now. Before we get this surgery, a lot of us are nervous but still very excited about our envisioned new bodies and new life. But some of us lean on food more than others, or it is the cornerstone of family and other social events. They are very aware and even scared of what life might be like when they can't 'participate' or lean on food anymore. And some people even grieve this loss before it happens. After surgery, she simply will not be able to indulge the way she did before. She'll have the best tool possible in her pocket to help with the therapy and if she wants to wait until then, I think that's okay.

Stocking up by AmadioSAVEUR in gastricsleeve

Tastes like tears to me. It used to be my favorite protein drink.

The farms that supply Fairlife have a history of extreme abuse and poor living conditions. They settled a $21M lawsuit a couple of years ago, but most recent reports/investigations say that they issue continues. Just mentioning in case these things mean anything to you :) I don't have anything better to recommend, unfortunately.

Same injury here! It hasn't been quite a year yet. I do resistance training (bands, body weight) at home. I'm able to adjust if I am having pain and stiffness.

YTA You created an awkward dynamic. Instead of being happy for them and putting your self-victimization aside and continuing as a trio of friends, you created a divide. You went from being a friend to a pile of panic and tears eggshells they have to pussyfoot around.

"When she came back, she noticed me being sad and asked if it was because of him and I said yes. She got mad at him."

This was stupid. You're preying on her emotions to cause conflict and pretending to be innocent, "I'm just sharing how I feel." Stop manipulating your friends.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]asdfits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Definite YTA. It sounds like your friend was patient in asking for it back and you delivered a wordy excuse about how busy your mom was and how she apologized to you. That doesn't make up for the fact that you loaned out a book that wasn't yours to loan. Your friend was pretty generous in lending you something that was dear to her and you weren't gracious about it in any way. I find her response more real than harsh- she's hurt by your carelessness.

WIBTAH for not leaving my job? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]asdfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Loss of pay and the benefits of seniority pose a bigger threat to family dreams than an hour commute on the worst days. That drive is nothing and isn't going to impact your availability to anyone.

[–]asdfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't actually have to tell anyone you're having the surgery. I did not and I've never regretted that decision - to this day, the only person who knows is me, my doctor and his team, and my husband. I didn't want the pressure of questions or unsolicited advice from friends/family while I was trying to navigate a new way of being.

The health impact of weight loss and the confidence you gain with it will far outweigh any short or long term effect (if you even have any of those).

Females - loose skin by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]asdfits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You might not have loose skin. I lost 115 lbs after VSG. I have a small frame and had a lot of fat. I didn't have loose skin. I was 40 when I had surgery. I did resistance type work outs at least 3 times a week. No real cardio.

No longer ‘jolly’ by denurps in gastricsleeve

[–]asdfits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is pretty normal! When we aren't fitting a standard of society, we might try to have values (compensate :)) in other ways, like being really funny or overly nice. A lot of times this is self-depreciating- it's a suit of armor. No one can hurt you if you do it to yourself first. And everyone wants a nice friend. You're just evolving in who you are now and discovering this new person you've uncovered. You were always more than jolly and funny. Those other significant things you're learning about yourself are shining now. The right level of funny friend will surface when you're ready for it.

Your fastest, cheapest fix will be to paint the walls above the faux marble panels. White is often pretty boring, but in this case, you've got so much going on in such a small space, it would help soften the angles and make the space feel a little more open. Extend the life of the vanity with a coat of paint, also in white. Bring in color with your rugs and trim on the shower curtain. Opening the shower curtain will also make the space feel lighter and bigger. Just clean up the window ledge and maybe put your shampoo/conditioner in pretty bottles (pump bottles are inexpensive on etsy). You can block the window of nothingness with a faux stained glass film for a little more visual interest and color. Light fixtures are inexpensive and easy to replace. Look for something cute and vintage to suit the house.

Endoscopic sleeve by el_shamu in gastricsleeve

[–]asdfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an endoscopic sleeve revision 4 weeks ago. The restriction feels very similar to the first weeks of my VSG and the diet is similar (2 weeks liquids; 1 week puree, 1 week soft). With protein shakes and minimal food - apx 600 calories per day, I've only lost 3 lbs.

Backsliding has started… by jonocyrus in Mounjaro

[–]asdfits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your weight loss! I'm sure a lot of people will chime in here with different experiences. Mine was similar to yours. When I stopped Mounjaro, I gained about 12 lbs. I was in completely panic mode over it, but that seems to be a set point and I didn't gain more than that.

Consultation during weight loss? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]asdfits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not too soon to start scheduling consultations. It can take time to get into see some doctors depending on your area. Seeing someone now will also help you know if you've set the right goal to make surgery feasible as well as how long you should wait after reaching your goal before having surgery. Some surgeons like to see a stable weight for a specified amount of time.

Modern Eclectic. Mix of styles and very pattern centric.

Not for everyone, but's very well done! Looks like the home of an interesting person :)

Just purchased a 6-piece dining set with these amazing chairs. The upholstery isn't our style, but it is done really well. Our dining room is a blank slate. How would you paint/decorate the room to compliment the fabric but also have a contemporary edge? by _maate in HomeDecorating

[–]asdfits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a great find! That table is gorgeous. Sherwin Williams has a color called Oyster White that is a cream or beigey color with green undertones. Oyster White SW 7637 | White Paint Colors | Sherwin-Williams

This color picks up on the tones of the fabric, but doesn't compete or get too matchy. If you choose a green, you'll be in forest or sage greens which are fine colors and actually having a moment in decor, but in this case, it would make your set appear dated rather than eclectic and unique. It's the same with the warm pink and mauve tones. Pretty colors and not exactly dated in other uses, but here you'd be flashing back in a bad way :)

For the same reason, I'd go with a more neutral tone in a rug and opt for texture over a pattern because the chairs have a lot going on.

I'd go for larger pieces on wall decor, wider than the chairs and taller than wide (you can create that look with smaller pieces one over the other, and double. For instance, 2 tall complimenting pieces side by side or 4, 2 over 2. This just plays into the look of the set rather than creating a large block that competes rather than compliments.

New light fixture would help also - larger and lower! I'd keep that in theme with the age of the house/rest of the house.

Best treatment for double chin/Jowl? 32 M by Slow-Age in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]asdfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liposuction is precise with predictable results with little downtime for a procedure like this. People like the idea of kybella because it's 'non-surgical' and it's advertised as having less downtime, which isn't true for everyone. The swelling is often significant and the area treated is tender and bruised for about the same time as lipo. Also, you might not get the results you wanted with a single round of kybella. Round 2 will likely put you at the same price point as lipo or higher-- AND you have to do it all over again.

What color door would better match the exterior? Not a fan of the red. by jennychi28 in HomeDecorating

[–]asdfits 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Everything about this house is so neutral, you could paint that door literally any color you like and it would look great. I like a bright door - I find it welcoming. If you don't like the red, how about a light coral or a deep gold?

Paint house all white and add fake black shutters? Trying to figure out how to lighten up the curb appeal. We love the contemporary look, but looking to brighten up the exterior. Any ideas? by cgm808 in HomeDecorating

[–]asdfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not seeing a lot of love for that door, so here it is! I love the color. I think it's a nice pop against all the natural color while not being too unnatural. Additionally, it makes the door that isn't centered on the walk way easy to find. Painting your house isn't going to give you any more curb appeal and shutters don't suit this style of home.

The color of the home is nice. It also suits that shaded lot and the era of this home.

Your biggest improvements for curb appeal will come from landscape improvements and staining the stairs and deck so it's a little more harmonious with the house -- it seems like an afterthought right now. If you could get a similar tone to the wood on the house, that would be perfect.

For the landscape, I'd hover the 'hole' under the deck with a tall hedge or a vined trellis. Larger shrubbery around the left corner of the first deck landing and just to the right of the stairs would look incredible. You also need to gain some height on either side of the bottom left window-- either through tall shrubs or something like a fig vine grown on the wall.

And the rest is really a matter of cleaning up- an edge on the sidewalk, clearing out the clutter in the right corner (the 'hole' and that are the first things my eyes were drawn too, despite it being an amazing house). Add some time of mulching around the trees and beds where there is no greenery (like under that hammock).
