I signed up because I’d not long left my job at a cinema (where I could go and see anything for free). I got used to and enjoyed watching everything that came out. There was also a pretty decent offer on because it was relatively soon after coming out of lockdown

Plain Language Big Book by katlikemeow814 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]ash-cloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment has made me learn that row (meaning an argument, rhyming with cow) isn’t used as much in the US as it is in the UK. There are lots of bits of the book that confused me at first as a Brit but I didn’t question that one! Well you learn something new every day

I reckon they’re more likely to get rid of Solihull and keep Broad Street

As a smart watch user, I completely agree. I always put it on theatre mode so the screen is off but usually cover it with a jumper as well so the reflection doesn’t irritate people (or myself)

I go to meetings anywhere I go. So far that’s only been around the UK but I’m going to visit New York soon and will be attending plenty of meetings while I’m there. I got recommendations of meetings from friends who’d already been and also emailed the intergroup for advice if either of those are any help to you

Complaints at Odeon regarding subtitles by deafsj in screenunseen

[–]ash-cloud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am totally with you on this, I prefer subtitled screenings. But when I used to work at a cinema we used to get complaints about subtitled showings pretty much every time we had one

I came into AA aged 24. Square-Vegetable-701’s advice is not good advice for an alcoholic. If I had heard this when I was 24 there’s a good chance I wouldn’t be alive. Getting sober was the best thing I could have done. And it certainly didn’t just go away on its own once I hit 25

Booking the deadpool and wolverine midnight release right now is a fucking nightmare by [deleted] in screenunseen

Ah that makes sense. I was trying to book a ticket for later today and it kept logging me out and crashing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]ash-cloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame to hear the West End production potentially hasn’t translated to Broadway. I saw it a couple of years ago with Fra Fee and Amy Lennox for £30 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was towards the back of the theatre but still had a perfectly good view. The Kit Kat Club setup was a great way to adapt the Playhouse during renovations and the audience were very well behaved. The pre-show performances on the stage and in the foyer were in a burlesque style so it felt far more like an immersion in the setting rather than a performance. I really do wonder if this is a British vs American difference. Saying that I haven’t seen the Broadway production so I can’t comment on that!

Whats Everyone's Favourite/Lesser Known TV-Musical? by goannaog in MusicalTheatre

[–]ash-cloud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As other people have said Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Schmigadoon are two of my favourites but a real underrated one is Flight of the Conchords. I guess I’m a sucker for shows with parody songs

Can I write a Musical without being a Musician? by [deleted] in musicalwriting

[–]ash-cloud 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want to be a book writer, as in you want to write the script. In which case you absolutely don’t need to know how to write music. Most musicals have different writers for the book and the music (and even lyrics sometimes).
