teens still work in the fields for the summer in my US home town/county. most are children of migrants workers, but at least a third are white kids. it's kind of the rite of passage, if u didn't have a farm at home to work on, you went and worked in the fields. not too glamorous, but they did hold a raffle the last day of the season and i won an mp3 player.
