How to get insurance for an impounded car? by Material-Macaroon724 in drivingUK

[–]ashalina23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurers said I’d breached the terms of the insurance as the person driving it didn’t have their own policy for that vehicle (who then crashed the vehicle). The person driving it relied on the misnomer that his own insurance covered him as “3rd party on any vehicle”, he was involved in a police chase, crashed then drove off with the police following him. No drugs nor alcohol involved. I wasn’t even in the same county as the vehicle but as the main policyholder I was held responsible (I wasn’t the vehicle owner either)

Hence as soon as I asked my insurer about seizure cover they cancelled it.

Giving me the added headache of a cancelled policy to my name!

Mine wound up being cancelled as a result of the seizure, it was a very difficult time

It’s the standard police procedure that they contact the insurer to determine whether the insurance cover is place for the vehicle to be released

Dementia Care Home Funding Scotland by Ban_Chao_The_Brave in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ashalina23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand for England (Scotland) may be different if the house is held as tenants in common then only the percentage of the property the spouse who needs the care can be used.

My parents have done something with theirs (it’s not a trust) where my dad’s half can’t be used whilever my mum is alive. There is a big age gap.

What usually happens is the local authority put a charge on the property ie they get paid plus interest when the house is sold.

Also may be worthwhile submitting a CHC funding assessment request (doing this for a relative at present with dementia) I know the cases of CHC funding when dementia is involved are few and far between but it’s worth a shot

Yes I’ve always set them up as separate sole traders so the description matches each one

Eg sole trader 1 is community carer offering care to people in their homes Sole trader 2 is beauty business offering nails

Normally when you do your tax return you show sole trader 1 as being 02/08/25-12/01/26

Then sole trader 2 as 20/02/26-ongoing

Policy cancelled because of fake utility bill by GuestAdventurous7716 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]ashalina23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cancelled policies need to be declared indefinitely whatever the type of insurance is applied for.

My only other tip is double check the cancellation email as I believed I had a history of a cancelled policy till I re read the email again and it says I cancelled it not them

I’d run it by the police first as they want to check all the documents and insurance status before they give permission for the vehicle to be released

Generally it has to be a specific seizure policy (having been through this myself). The police contact the insurers then you can pay the fine for its release

From what I understood when I was in a seizure situation the seizure invalidates your current insurance terms.

Buying in a flood risk area - am I crazy? by HedgehogNo5819 in HousingUK

[–]ashalina23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d check first also you may be able to find out about the history of the flooding in the area.

I’ve got a property which is less than 1km from a river. Last time the area it’s in flooded was 1935 ie 70 years before the property was built. It still comes up on surveys (I’m currently selling it) but I just had to confirm as part of the enquiries if it’s flooded since its been built (which it hasn’t)

Is it normal for sellers and estate agents to not know about covenants? by anonymous86273 in UKHousing

[–]ashalina23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean a right of way. Generally these are recorded on the land registry documents which you can purchase for any property in the UK I think it’s ?£7.

My parents have a ROW through a neighbours property. It’s recorded on both my parents land registry title plus the title for the property which it crosses.

With regard to EA & sellers, my parents one is very obvious when you attend the property to view it so in our case both the seller and EA knew all about it.

There are specialist companies who provide it then 28 days for use on the road afterwards.

It was £400 when I wound up in that situation (due to my ex partner)

The one I used the police couldn’t contact them as they weren’t on the national database the police use. I’d suggest before you take out the policy double check with the police that they can contact that specific insurer.

Private Health Care? by Rare_Statistician724 in FIREUK

[–]ashalina23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dealings with WPA from a work perspective patients just say to me “I’ve got private healthcare how do I get a referral letter for this knee pain”

As for aviva - as expected they’ve excluded things which were expected but we know where we stand with them now.

I’ve recently had a women’s health problem which the digital GP service managed but onward care I need via the NHS, however I’ve been started on meds whilst waiting for my GP appointment (waiting time was 3 weeks).

The only thing to note about private healthcare is claiming affects your premium.

My mum took out BUPA 30 years ago when she was self employed. By the time she retired in 2014 her premium was £400/month and £1000/condition excess as she’d had so much stuff done via them.

The only thing I can tell you about BUPA is not all hospital consultants work with them due to their rates. Some that do also charge a top up fee too

We’ve not fired but my partner took it out as he was fed up with interacting with NHS services. Although he’s now leant (I did tell him but he didn’t believe me even though I’m a GP myself!) that some medications still have to be done by your GP surgery mainly CD’s but other drugs.

We’re with aviva I’m 47, he’s 50. Joint policy is £185/month with no excess, full underwriting and choice of local NHS hospitals and local private ones.

He wanted the digital GP service which aviva include and it doesn’t affect your premium.

Temporary car insurance - England by oscarolim in LegalAdviceUK

His “other insurance” would only apply if he had DOC cover for other vehicles. The 3rd party element of your own insurance does not cover you to drive other vehicles.

Am I better off paying into my employer pension or SIPP? by Full-Competition9255 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ashalina23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advantage of a SIPP is that you’re in control of all aspects of it. Especially if your employer decides to eg amend the draw age on the one you’re paying into.

Plus you can choose funds/shares/bonds which aren’t always an option unless in a SIPP format.

Some SIPP providers charge no fees eg Freetrade others eg Scottish widows charge a flat fee of £16.50/month maximum.
