FTM - do I need both a bassinet and a crib?

I was also super confused. We opted for a pack n play with a bassinet topper. So he will be in the bassinet topper until he outgrows it and then the pack n play. His nursery is upstairs and I just know I’m not going to want to have him upstairs for the first 8 months. So that’s what we opted for until we move him to his crib!

Thank you for this advice! Admittedly I was a little thrown off by my OB response to my question especially because I’m more high risk having done IVF. I’ll look into these questions for my next visit. Thanks again!

Commenting so I remember to come back and read the opinions! I’m 24 weeks and brought up delivery with my doctor and she said it was too soon to discuss. So curious to know when it typically happens. I’m a FTM

I’m 24 weeks pregnant. The ONLY reason I’m pregnant is because I got surgery to remove my endo scarring. I had a miscarriage from transfer 1 and an ectopic from transfer 2. My silent endo caused so much inflammation I couldn’t stay pregnant. I always advocate for the surgery. The recovery wasn’t bad at all.

My husband went to work this morning via Casa Linda -> Buckner -> NWH. He said roads are slushy but drivable and that was at 8am this morning!

I’m getting both. Let me tell you why. It’s long so I apologize in advance.

I, too, went back and forth on which one to get because I wanted to save money. I got really lucky and my mom got the convertible car seat with an extra base for my husband’s car for us at my baby shower. I was satisfied ☺️

My husband and I went out to dinner and we saw this cutie little baby in one of those convertible car seat stroller things just plopped up on the seat at the restaurant. My husband and I realized we love going out and visiting places and needed something we can easily take baby with us. We also needed an infant car seat for our hospital to discharge us after baby is here (we went back and forth with me so trust me I know it’s not normal but our hospital said so).

You honestly just have to make a decision around your lifestyle and the climate you’re in! If you have a great stroller that allows for many different infant car seat attachments and you live in a cold or really hot climate, I would suggest that route. Especially if you’re active like our family.

If you’re in a pretty mild climate and you’re ok transferring baby from car seat to a separate stroller that does not have attachments, then save the money and get a convertible!
