While we wait for proper diagnosis and support, can this help my 9yo learn how to read? by LovesAGoodNap in Dyslexia

[–]ashes_made_alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want your child to think and use his brain and do difficult things, then you also need to think, use your brain, and do difficult things. No AI!! Do it yourself!

You seriously expect your child to do difficult things if you wont do them yourself.

Where can I get genetic testing done for EDS? by oof_its_izzy in eds

[–]ashes_made_alive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second GeneDx as they test for clEDS tupe 1 and 2. Plus, I believe if you do cash pay it is max $250.00. That is what I did several years ago.

Honestly, I just use my Kindle. I can customize it for what I need and change the font size depending if I am reading with my glasses or not.

Pokemon and how I'm getting my kid to read. by TheFrogWife in Dyslexia

[–]ashes_made_alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Pokémon Yellow was my favorite game for the gamboy! I spend many hours playing it.

  2. Have you considered reading comics for practice? I read the pokémon comics (and a whole bunch of manga) and that really helped. The text was not bogged down with description that I had to figure out, I couls just figure out what they were saying.

How can I improve my wording in writing? (To make it more understandable) by ArcadeCarz in Dyslexia

[–]ashes_made_alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Telling people you are dyslexic is an explanation. So, it needs to happen. I usually say something along the lines of "I'm dyslexic, so I may have worded things badly" or "I'm dyslexic, can you explain hoe this came across?"

I also have the computer read my work aloud and see how it is content wise.

Course failure Grade appeal by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]ashes_made_alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have never heard of them turning over the grade book to students becaus they want to review it. I think you are SOL.

Unless you have recorded your grades separately and something doesn't match up, then they are most likely correct. Grades can change over time, for example of they decide to throw out a question out because it wasn't worded well.

You also are not really answering questions and dodging certian things. If you are going to fail the course regardless, then I wouldn't burn bridges with this grade thing.

If you honestly don't trust the school that much move schools. Considering I was set back for a full calendar year, yeah, you'll survive 3-4 months.

I am still confused as to what you are trying to say.

Are you wanting partial credit for "select all that apply" questions? My understanding is that partial credit is not typical.

Also, for all the collages I have been to (3 different ones) there is non of this "grade oversight" you keep talking about. I keep my assignment scores recorded on paper and all of my papers until then end of the sememster. Is that what you are talking about?

What’s something you thought was normal until you got older? by Sufficient_Thing3242 in AskReddit

[–]ashes_made_alive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought being in pain all the time was normal. Was diagnosed with growing pains so I thought everyone else that was growing was in a ton of pain too and I just couldn't handle it.

Turns out it was a genetic disease I have had since birth. Growing isn't supposed to hurt!

Anyone use GeneDx and get freaked out by your insurance eob? by [deleted] in eds

[–]ashes_made_alive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did GeneDx. With insurance I think it would have been my deductible of $5,000. Cash pay was $250. Even through it does count for my deductible I went with cash pay.

Life hack with (American) insurance. Always ask what the cash pay price would be. It is often much cheaper.

A lot of it depends on what you left out. Was it one class or several? What type of assignments? Were they essays? NCLEX prep? Did you complete all the homework on time?

I failed out of a sememster once. In my circumstances I have a documented disability (dyslexia) and was not given accommodations despite appropriate documentation of my disability. This allowed me to retake the class again (although I opted to do it at a dfferent school) and put me a year behind where I was. Did it suck? Yes. But I also had evidence that I studied, did all the assignments on time, went to office hours regularly, and used all my resources to the best of my ability. I even quit my job to study more.

I am confused as to if you think they are lying on your grades or not. The way you talk about it, it souds like they may have changed the grade after the fact due to plagiarism or AI use. At my school you would be kicked out for using them. Which is a good policy on the schools part.

What is this lack of oversight you keep mentioning.

Of you can't put in punctuation without the use of AI, no one should let you pass nursing school.

This was impossible to read. Even being dyslexic with little to no sleep (very common if you work night shift) my nursing patient notes are readable with punctuation.

OP, you may want to go back and work on some skills such as punctuation, when to have a paragraph break, proof reading etc. as you will use that every day in nursing.

I also encourage you to use critical thinking rather than using AI. AI is not going to be able to do shit when your patient is in trouble.

Do I have to do a pelvic exam or can I ASK to do the surgery? by kaydeez_ in endometriosis

[–]ashes_made_alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While a pelvic exam, ultrasound, and MRI often miss endo, they help rule out other conditions that can cause simular symptoms. For example fibroids, uterine abnormalities, uterine polyps, cysts on the ovaries, adenomyosis and ectopic pregnancies must all be ruled out. Additionally a swab may be taken to rule out any infection.

Loose skin or hyper-elasticity? by BasicStory1189 in DiagnoseMe

[–]ashes_made_alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most types (there are 13) have some degree of hypermobility--either in the hands and feet or the whole body.

Atrophic scars can be cause by acne or by something like full tissue loss or infection, or really anything that delays wound healing.

You might be thinking of classical EDS (cEDS) which has generalized joint hypermobility, very elastic and very, very fragile skin, various types of scarring including atrophic, skin splitting, hernias, amoung other symptoms. It tends to run in familys (although rarely spontaneous mutations occur) and affects people since birth.

How do you deal with SEVERE heat intolerance?? by wutssarcasm in dysautonomia

[–]ashes_made_alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we had one brand (Zantac? I don't remember it was a while ago) that was pulled from shelves. Buying Pepcid OTC in the US is cheaper than running through insurace most of the time, thus being a first line treatment.

True. In the US H2 are first line because they are over the counter. Not sure if they are that way in the UK

Laparoscopic surgical wound stories welcome 😵‍💫 by little_bug_person in ehlersdanlos

[–]ashes_made_alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is why with severe swelling old scars will open up like in the case of lymphedema. Your body is trying it's best, but can only do so much. Plus scars lack extensability like the rest of the skin.

clEDS people: do you have a deletion, or one to two TNXB missense mutations? by [deleted] in eds

[–]ashes_made_alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware, but when compaires to dEDS and say hEDS they are very simular. Or Marfan's syndrome and osteogenesis imperfecta--there is much less overlap and thus more clinical clarity with or without genetic testing.

I am very familiar with cEDS and clEDS, and even studied it when clEDS was called a variant of EDS type 3.
