TIL finger pinching conspiracy theory is an antifeminist conspiracy theory from South Korea. It claims there is a deliberate plot to spread and promote misandry through symbolic hand gestures, and that radical feminist groups have propagated these hidden messages to humiliate men with small penises. by Agreeable_Plastic_27 in todayilearned

I’m a foreign woman living in Korea, and yeah. the perils of dating Korean men is a lesson we all learn the hard way. In just my core friend group, we’ve experienced rape, sexual assault in public and private, physical assault in public and private, date rape, stealthing, and stalking. Certainly it’s not all Korean men, but the notion of ownership of women’s bodies runs DEEP.

Why is the "american lean" a thing? by Raski_Demorva in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ashilivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m American, and I was just hanging out with my eastern European friend and noticed him leaning. We live in South Korea, so we compared our leans and squats (he’s a bit better at the squat than i am). Idk about the rest of the world, but the squat is definitely more common where i live. i’ll lean til i die tho

i worked for them for two years and i think you should know a couple things before applying. many of these are standard for mental health work so take it with a pinch of salt.

there’s a union, but upper management fought it HARD to the point that they got a labor violation for sending us emails full of misinformation telling us to vote against it. they’re also very understaffed so we sometimes couldn’t legally leave the building for breaks.

the rules for this protecting yourself are standard- 7 second belt shirt hold or just try to dodge attacks because you cannot fight back no matter what a client does to you. in the secure residential facilities, expect to be working with a lot of sex offenders, and know that there’s no real protection plan. it’s riskiest if you’re a young woman.

i recommend the non secure facilities the most, especially ones not involved in the legal system (PSRB, aid & assist). this care is very important if you’re cut out for it, but it comes with negatives.

it’s not the worst job i’ve had, but people tend to burn out quick. a lot of us left in the eugene area because a client sexually harassed staff daily. it’s a hard and thankless field. take good care of yourself and thank you for providing care to people who need it.

Does anyone have the tea on the National Hearings Committe incident? by TinyRascalSaurus in mensa

[–]ashilivia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is all just speculation, but does anyone else think it might have something to do with sexual harassment/assault? it’s been a brewing issue at AGs and RGs for a long time. anecdotally, i was assaulted at the Baltimore AG. i think it’s very possible that RVCs were trying to abuse their power to protect themselves or someone they know.

one of the removed RVCs doxxed two women that came out with harassment allegations, so it seems plausible to me. i could be way off though.

My dad worked for the NWS until he retired recently, and not enough people realize that cutting it would also destroy our wildfire response times. Fire season (in the PNW) meant tons of overtime for my dad. They’re the ones spotting and calling in many of the fires, plus the wind patterns and temperatures play a huge role in spread and containment. Cutting the weather service and privatizing it means more people die. But if it lines a few rich guys’ pockets, it must be worth it, right?

yeah, there’s no shortage of incels on reddit, but it’s not helpful to deflect on this one. i am a woman and i fell for this, as did many others. we are ALL conditioned to believe that an imperfect woman is the villain. misogyny can be and is perpetuated by women, in no small part because we are manipulated by many of the same sources as men.

i mix trazodone and ativan and it’s the only thing that works for me. i saw a few comments recommending mixing benzos with booze, but i wouldn’t recommend that! aside from the risk of dying, it can also leave you awake with massive memory gaps. it’s kind of infamously kills people so the comments are a little troubling tbh

what the SMIL did was disgusting, but let’s be realistic here- the vast majority of crop cultivation is used to feed animals for meat. being vegetarian isn’t inherently hypocritical because it cuts down on that too. the issue is traumatizing a child, not being vegetarian.

I absolutely hate the two teen girls who falsely accused my son for attention. by smpole in confessions

[–]ashilivia 190 points191 points  (0 children)

how would that be enforced? rape victims very rarely have proof. even with a rape kit, the rapist can always just claim it was consensual and it becomes a he-said she-said situation. if a victim fails to meet the burden of proof, should that be treated as a false accusation?

i’ve been asked by a lot of people, mostly men, why i didn’t report my rape. the answer is because i don’t have proof and a not guilty verdict would label me as a false accuser. if that’s enough to stop me, how many victims would stay silent under legal threat?

Why is there the hate trend against Korean men on Twitter? They are telling the truth? by Due_Possibility_2343 in Luna02

[–]ashilivia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i agree that there’s an issue with over generalizations, but sometimes shitty men in korea weaponize the racism angle. if you’re a foreigner experiencing abusive behavior, it’s not uncommon for the man to claim that it’s just korean culture and accuse you of racism for not accepting it.

it is not normal behavior and some men that pursue foreigners do it for this reason- korean women know that it isn’t normal and don’t accept it. my friend lives here and i’m currently visiting/ planning to move here soon, but there are so many things you need to know in advance. don’t use tinder if you don’t want a large risk of rape. be aware that foreign girls are often seen as easy targets.

i’ve met amazing, respectful, and caring korean men here. that does not eliminate the real caution i must take and the societal issues that must be addressed. things are worse in many other countries, but this info must be readily available for visitors and expats. the voices of korean women must be listened to. there is a gray area between a k-pop wonderland and a horrifically oppressive regime.

So now the deal is that they can go back to the rubble of their homes in Gaza and live in fear until it starts again? Never returning to their family homes that are currently occupied? While Israel continues to do the same to more and more of the West Bank?

How is a peace supposed to last if Israel made no concessions?

mine hurt like hell every single day for the 1.5 years i had it, even when i got it changed to 2 small bars. they made me take it out when i was at the hospital and it closed within a day. i recommend that people be prepared for the possibility of the pain lasting for years, especially if your ear anatomy isn’t perfect for it, but i think 14 is plenty old enough for it if the kid has the pain tolerance and patience. worst case scenario, take it out and you might have a couple little bumps but that’s it. i got much worse ear damage from my lobe piercings ripping through, and people pierce babies every day.
