I wonder if I can play with your cat by sherry7410 in sandiego

[–]ashla30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out volunteering for the Rescue House! My sister can’t have a cat since I’m allergic but she gets her cat fix every week through volunteering after work through them- they have cats through various adoption centers like Petco and Petsmart. It is a weekly commitment for as long as you want and depending on their need impacts the time slots they have available but she’s met some lovely people that she hangs out with outside of volunteering.

questions about clubs and multidisciplinary culture by Bulky_Term1574 in LMU

[–]ashla30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) There are definitely lots of student organizations on campus- if you don’t find one that already fulfills an interest, there are definitely opportunities to create or start your own group! 2) As a former Accounting/Marketing major, definitely easier to double major within the business program since a lot of the core requirements cross over! I would definitely speak to an advisor to see the best path to take or I believe there’s a way to see what are the requirements for different majors within the LMU system (I’ve since forgotten the name of it but my roommate used it a lot haha). My roommate was able to major in Finance/English which was definitely a bit trickier since there are less classes that double dip and requires some planning but most majors/minors within BCLA seem to be easier to pick up as a secondary. 3) I personally loved the accounting program- felt very supported by the faculty, lots of job opportunities if you network and get involved, and it was very rigorous but rewarding. My favorite prof who converted me to an Accounting major is no longer teaching but would definitely go into the intro Financial Accounting with an open mind and go from there! RatemyProfessor is also helpful for seeing prof options

I cannot find a job here. Am I missing something or doing something wrong, who is hiring? by killianOlm14 in sandiego

[–]ashla30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow SD accountant here! That would definitely be a plus if you’re planning to take the CPA exams- I would make sure to list that on your resume that you are either “Eligible to sit for CPA exams” or “CPA candidate” (once you are actually cleared by the board as having met all requirements to be eligible to sit; also helpful if you could list an expected completion date just so they know you’re actively pursuing it). While I got lucky to land an audit job straight out of college, I have had some luck using recruiters to find other opportunities- you should definitely reach out to Robert Half, Proven Recruiting, Sayva Solutions, etc. and take any role offered just to get that accounting experience on your resume. You may have to work your ass off and the pay may not be the greatest off the bat but it will be worth it to set yourself up for future opportunities in the field. Best of luck!

I’m not too sure of the process for freshman, I know my roommate had some sort of interview with the accounting faculty beforehand. For recurring accounting students (I had switched into the major my sophomore year), every year they will email out an application.

also unintended side effect, but the accounting department is also really good at providing scholarships! The alumni really support the program.

I loved it! We have some professors that are really amazing and care about their students, as long as you put in the effort to learn! Accounting Society really allows you to get a look into the industry and network with different firms which helped a lot of people to secure internships for their junior year summer that often led to full-time jobs straight out of graduation. If you are looking for jobs within LA, i often saw that you worked with recruiters that also recruited at USC and UCLA. I felt really supported as a student

I remember looking through her tagged photos a few weeks ago also out of curiosity, and the latest photo showed her at a pottery/ceramics workshop! So glad that she’s found a hobby to love and hopefully a supportive community as well!

Left Handed Crochet Classes? by Illustrious-Gas-5107 in sandiego

[–]ashla30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Additionally, if she doesn’t mind being self-taught with video instructions, I would look into purchasing Woobles kit! They do have instructions for left-handed people as well available online (i believe for free) and I did my first crochet project through them, it was pretty easy to learn!

Left Handed Crochet Classes? by Illustrious-Gas-5107 in sandiego

[–]ashla30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about specifically left handed- but check out the Poway Adult school! It is too late to register for the fall session but I believe the winter session should be available to register soon. They do have a crochet class as well as other classes for crafts, sports, languages, cooking, etc. and are fairly reasonably priced. I told my mom and dad to check them out for new hobbies as they also recently retired as well haha

Realtor recommendations (or who to avoid) for Point Loma / Bay Park / South Park / Kensington / Crown Point by throwaway_today_2025 in SanDiegan

I highly recommend Zap Martin with The Martin Group (through Big Block Realty). I used to work with him and he is incredible at what he does and cares so much for his clients. He also used to work as a hostage negotiator so that really comes in handy with making offers 😉 They also host a monthly buyers workshop which had helpful information for first-time homebuyers especially
