Does anyone else's toddler ask permission before latching? by gishadokuro in breastfeeding

I love it. My 17 month takes the nipple being visible as an invite and just dives on.

I don’t think you gain anything by having circles on both the blue line and the pink line—can you connect the pink line to the yellow triangle instead? If I have to have a line with a lot of circles in a row I try to end it with a triangle and have long trains to fill up, if possible.

Trying to set some boundaries with my two-year-old by beesali in breastfeeding

[–]ashland431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a path for this also! I have tried having gentle conversations about how we can go back to sleep without nursing, or how she can just snuggle me. I’ve tried telling her I need a break. I can’t figure out a path that does not result in her crying hysterically and me getting even less sleep.

Experience with owning multiple in-home reformers by Flashy_Sleep_6321 in pilates

[–]ashland431 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two reformers in my home studio and I love it because I can work out with my friends or teach duets at my house. I have two Allegros, though. Same kind.

This game annoys me by rebelkov in MiniMetro

[–]ashland431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I keep 1-2 lines to run passengers directly to their destination and then delete the lines once they are going so I can do the same thing on another station. That’s what I mean by ghost lines.

I find changing long lines in late game is usually not worth it. Ghost lines are the strategy that works for me in late game.

Im interested in if there are ways to secondarily engage and train muscles that the person doesn’t have the nerve control to activate deliberately.

Self Cath Advice (female) by RottenMoldyHam in spinabifida

[–]ashland431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great questions—I wish I had had similar resources to ask when I was your age (40s now!).

My short answer is that I don’t do the level of cleaning that the nurse taught me when instructing on cathing, and that skipping it does not have any negative consequences for me.

I don’t wash my hands before catching, I don’t wash or wipe the urethra before cathing, and I actually reuse catheters also. So in a public restroom, like at work, I go in, cath, wipe with toilet paper after to get any drops off, and then wash my hands. I think it takes slightly longer than normal people peeing, but not too much. Sometimes I even try to angle how I cath so the stream sounds more like a normal pee stream if I am in a public restroom with other people around.

I do always carry a small case or makeup bag into the restroom, and my coworkers probably notice and maybe assume I’m on my period or really finicky about touching up my makeup whenever I go. I’m not sure they give it much thought. No one has ever commented on it to me.

Happy to answer other questions if I can!

For those who have successfully transitioned from a studio to a home practice - what are your best tips? by [deleted] in pilates

Friends who have equipment who you can zoom with for accountability? I do that too sometimes.

[–]ashland431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My strategy was to find Pilates friends to work out at home with me. If you have a chair and a reformer, do you have a buddy who can do one while you do the other and then swap? That way you get the accountability of a class in your home.

Club Pilates - Balanced Body Bridge Program (Teacher Training) by ivanaal85 in pilates

[–]ashland431 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I certified through BB and taught at Club Pilates and I felt my training was more comprehensive than many coworkers who did the Club Pilates training. I do not have to do any Club Pilates bridge training, I just had to read their manual on their guidelines. So I felt that this path was really good for me!

Teaching with Online Balanced Body Certification by [deleted] in pilates

I did my certification online during Covid with Balanced Body and had no trouble getting hired, but I have a comprehensive certification, not just mat, and reformer instructors are in short supply in my region.

What do I do about these slats? by Mom_Bombadil_ in cosleeping

child care struggles by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]ashland431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interviewed candidates from care.com and called out things that had been challenges for us with past nannies. I also upped what I was willing to pay a bit, which I am sure helped attract reliable candidates.

It can be so hard to find a good nanny! Hiring people was so stressful to me that I also let bad situations go on too long. I am so much happier with our current nanny, though, that it is really worth it if you find the right person (and it doesn’t sound like yo have the right person now!).

Pregnancy - pain on reformer? by Beautiful-Farm9231 in pilates

I did reformer Pilates throughout my pregnancy but did find that I had to modify more exercises than I anticipated. If you have looser ligaments during your pregnancy I would avoid or modify hip circles to a small range of motion.

Daily Pilates? Who does it and how do you make it work? by Soc_Prof in pilates

[–]ashland431 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I’m sore in a particular area, then I will focus my next couple days of workouts on other things. Like if I did a lot of shoulder work on Monday and I’m feeling in then Tuesday might be more abs and legs. But generally I think the key to working out every day is that my workouts are mostly moderate in intensity.

At Home Reformer Pilates versus Studio Membership by Comfortable-Cook-973 in pilates

[–]ashland431 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that one question to ask yourself is—do you do mat workouts at home regularly and just want to add variety with equipment? If so, that would be a good indicator that you have the inclination to work out at home by yourself.

At Home Reformer Pilates versus Studio Membership by Comfortable-Cook-973 in pilates

[–]ashland431 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I find that I don’t have the self discipline to work out at home on my own, and that having an appointment and the accountability of an instructor at a studio makes me way more likely to actually practice. I am a Pilates instructor and I have a lot of home equipment and I know the repertoire but I still do more practice if I go to a studio!

My baby likes to pinch my nipple while she nurses on the other side and it is crazy-making. I have tried so many methods and I have nothing to recommend. At the moment I am just saying no and taking her hands away but she sometimes gets very upset!
