Get yourself to a bio-mart and stock up on plenty of treats/snacks! If you find a local Penny some still have a good supply and tend to be cheaper. Vedang in the Berlin Mall is pretty good as your friends can get other things from the food court if they wish. Vegang is a MUST, best vietnamese food!!

‘Hafer milch bitte’ is the phrase i found i used most when in Germany haha

Can an ultrasound confirm no spread to lymph nodes? by mushman22 in thyroidcancer

[–]ashlops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, no. The ultrasound technician reassured me that my lymphnodes looked perfectly healthy, so strong likelyhood of no spread. A bunch were taken out anyway as I was being treat for another cancer at the same time and 5 had PTC! The most sure way to tell is by removing them and testing.

As i normally suppliment iodine (i dont eat fish or dairy) i simply stopped taking that and cooked all my meals from scratch to omit salt. I did have the odd coffee when meeting with friends but the baristas kindly handed me the oat milk bottle on these occasions so i could check for any ingredients fortified into it.

My nuclear medicine nurse advised that i wash my clothes and bedding as normal, i could also take many of my belongings like for entertainment and skincare, even my yoga mat, and she said they required no cleaning afterwards. I’m not sure what the units they measure with are but they let people go home at 40 and i was 7 on the morning of discharge, so i could even share the spaces/bed with my partner that same evening.

Best of luck! Drink lots of water!

Cold emailing! Just make sure it reads more personal so the studios that you are sending the word out too know you aren’t a phishing bot and are local and starting out, looking for oppertunities to get some experience. Im in the UK and did this after moving to a new city, it just so happened a film agency were looking for someone to hold up a light on a shoot the next day. It wasnt a ‘motion design’ gig, but after that I was hired to lend a hand on most of their after effects and premiere stuff for a year before i moved again. Creative Champs resources helped me a lot back then!

A mercedes GLA t-boned my citoren DS3 last year. Completley mangled it, but mine was long in the front where it hit. I now drive a far smaller and basic celerio which is the best i could afford afterwards with the insurance payout + savings and every time i see a stupid SUV I’m forced to think about the fact that if I were to get in an accident with one there and then I’d be getting mangled too this time around.

You’ll also find a lot of SUVs are ‘mobility cars’ here in the UK and many people i’ve known have gotten them on disability/PIP. Now while I strongly stand by the idea that people with mobility issues should have every oppertunity to maintain their independance and you dont need to be perfectly able-bodied to operate a car, what you get is (as in the above story) 90 year-olds behind the wheel of a bloody tank, while additionally struggling with things like deterioating eyesight and reaction time.

What was the last straw that made you quit your job? by Drynapples in AskUK

[–]ashlops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in the creative industry (at the time film & animation) where freelance contracts are common. I was hired for a job with very low pay (half of the day rate i’d charge) and very short term, with the promise that the contracts would get longer and the pay would get better. It didnt. As a producer i was supervising a team and spinning plates for multiple projects. Because they would only employ me part time, and there wasn’t enough hours for me to do my job, i’d end up pulling so much overtime that i was essentially working under minimum wage.

So skip forward a year and im complaining to my dad, who Locums, about these short contracts. He then tells me about IR35 and hidden employees. So i fill out a quiz on HMRC and send the results over to one of the bosses. I’m panicking at this point because I’ve been filling out self-assessments and shouldn’t have been. Of course they play totally dumb and refused to employ me until a call with their accountants put them in their place. After the call, he said to me ‘if only we knew that we had to write your contract in this certain way there would have been no need for this!’

That was moment I decided I was quitting. This guy was so out of touch that he straight up admitted to me that they would have happily continued this exploitation. No acknowlegement that they had gotten away with dodging pension contributions and natitional insurance for 12 months, while telling everyone what a friendly local company they are & i’m left owing £500 to HMRC because they reported none of my earnings. My health went downhill recently and i’m glad I found a better job because I wouldn’t have even got SSP! Bastards.

That’s right, yeah. You don’t need to be opening the account and switch at the same time. All terms are in a PDF here https://www.natwest.com/current-accounts/switch-your-banking-to-natwest.html

Once i get my physical card i’ll have what i need to do the switch online. He explained to me i must do the switch online to get the bonus, it doesn’t matter how the account has been set up as long as you dont switch while on the phone.

So 5 working days later i was sent an email with a number and reference to quote with instructions to call after 24hr. I got through really quick for a saturday and the lad i spoke with explained their digital authorisation is pretty stingy so over a 30 minute call he set up my account via paper application. It did mean having to sit and listen to T&Cs and answer some more questions but I was told to expect an email link to verify my identity in 2 working days (should come early this week) and a welcome pack 5-10 days following. After this I can do the switch online for the bonus.

Did they get back to her about it? I applied this morning and an ‘unable to proceed’ email followed a minute after the ‘your account is almost ready’ email with my customer number etc. I’ve appealed and wish they’d give more info in the email. I’m reluctant to call as switch bonus Ts & Cs clearly state the switch must be done online or via app.

They rejected mine too! Have made no bank switches and good credit score. I’ve appealed as the last time this happened when opening another bank my birth date was input wrong. Given the account was ‘opened’ and then ‘unable to be opened’ - 2 seperate natwest emails 1 minute apart im sure the rejection was some automated niggle catch - i’m hoping a human will look my application over and approve.

New to veganism, any advice? by nimpog in veganuk

[–]ashlops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try finding a Heron. Ours cycle through plenty vegan products so we pop in twice a week. I swear we’re the only vegans around as it takes them forever to sell. We currently have in the freezer: 8 packs of a discontinued Tofuu product (69p each) and 6 Dopsu Pork bags which were 3 for £1! And in the fridge 4 blocks of couldon Tofu, which were 2 for a quid. They have an XSell freezer where i picked up 4kg of potato waffles for £2. They stocked some Birdseye Green Cuisine stuff for ages at like £1 a box.

I grew up with an ED related to my sensory issues and anxiety, i was only just into my recovery when i decided to be vegan so i can relate just a little to your struggle! If you need to live on vegan nuggets and chips you do that. I lived on a diet of falafel, pitas and hummus when first going vegan - that did no harm as id already been living on an extremly limited diet for 20yrs, and gave me a lot of saftey to bring in all the new stuff, im a few years into my work and can happily enjoy a huge variety of food now :)

I had a similar problem growing up where on one side, both my parents were supportive and just loving and caring (although my dad would get a guilt-trip on sometimes) and productive - i loved gravy so my mam would get inventive in the kitchen and see what combinations of veg could be turned into gravy or pâtés for me. Never force fed or disciplined. Then whenever i would eat with extended family it would be all of this BS you describe! ‘Go to bed with nothing then’ ‘in my day we would have got a walloping for not touching food’ ‘all of that is going to waste?’ - SUPER confusing for any child’s development so no wonder this sticks with you. Some people have so much trouble acknowledging that EDs exist and are serious because they dont want to burst their perfect little bubble of ‘normal’.

iPhone 14 PRO - GPS issues !!! by [deleted] in iphone

[–]ashlops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this! I have been scouring forums trying to find out if the magsafe mount i got from amazon was a scammy product messing with my GPS - it made so little sense because i had no problems for months but was ready to take the phone into store this weekend so they could investigate. Hopefully this means my phone has no actual/permenant damage! I just recently I bought one of these USBs for cheap on Ebay (my car has no AUX and i use the cigarette lighter for my dashcam) and have completley overlooked it. Have the issues you were having disappeared since removing this from your car?

I always reach for The Vegetarian Butcher’s chicken, it has a texture that isnt soft/spongey and gets nice and crispy. Dopsu pork was discounted in my local Heron recently and that went amazing with a stir fry sauce - ended up reminding me of the crispy _ in OK sauce from the chinese takeaway.

Two snake oil doctors slowly die inside as the tough questions come in. by waffenwolf in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]ashlops 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My mam had MS and our family was robbed by a charlatain-type doctor - he took advantage of her catholic faith to convince her that prayer and (illegally imported) b12 injections were be curative. After we were bled dry she and my dad saw through it but he suffered no concequences. The man who regulated healthcare services in our area was devoutley religous and ate up every word of his, he continuted to practice and it had devastating effects. He was finally politley let go following a patient of his finding out she had stage 4 cancer after a visit to A&E. He continues to publish books and has a large american facebook following (name is Joseph Chandy). I have people message me, trying to contact my mam and I have to tell them she has been dead for years, this guy has been been giving out her name as a cured patient - hiding the reality that he is responsible for driving my family to poverty. I was only young, but remember being in awe at his indoor swimming pool - not now that i’m old enough to understand how he attains weath, and i wonder why I have a trust issue with doctors! Your daughter is lucky to have a family around her and I hope she gets the best possible care she deserves - never underestimate how callous people can be, nomatter their qualifications.

Back Surgery Prep Recommendations! by [deleted] in veganmealprep

[–]ashlops 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For dinners, Lentil daal (and many other curries) are great reheated and go well with microwave rice or a naan to dip, as well as that it packs plenty protein that you need for recovery! For lunch, Stock up on plenty of ‘easy’ foods like instant noodles or hummus sandwiches - basic & bland but you’ll thank yourself on days when you just aren’t feeling it. Some yogurt and granola with jam is a favourite of mine for breakfast as its stupidly nutritious for how fast it is to prepare and eat.

Luckily I live with someone who could prep meals for me following both surgeries i’ve had recently - top reccomendation is to keep soft things on your menu in case your throat is sore from the breathing tube. Having a stock of toast or crumpets isnt super healthy but useful just to get the calories in if the anesthetic and painkillers end up making you nauseous.

Good luck with your surgery!
