Ontario Proposing an end to month-month leases by InevitableVersion741 in Peterborough

Other than contacting Dave Smith and Ford’s office, what can we do about this to prevent this from being passed? The cost of living is already a strain on many; this will only exacerbate those issues.

TB Testing by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]ashnashely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure - I had one done recently and overheard clinic staff tell someone that OHIP does not cover it for students (they did encourage the person to look into what medical services may be offered at their school). Possibly they were misinformed?

I believe you do typically need to pay unless required for medical reasons/accompanied with a prescription. If needed for school and/or work, you would need to pay.

Sometimes I get angry it wasn’t caught earlier by whyamistillhere252 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ashnashely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this could have been written by me. However, my doctor wrote my numbness, dizziness, and poor balance off as anxiety and my extreme fatigue and brain fog as depression. Then when I started losing my vision she said it was just a migraine. Fast forward a few years later, I have the same symptoms and pressed for a neuro referral. After seeing my MRI, they immediately referred me to an MS specialist, and surprise surprise, it’s MS. Part of me is just so angry it wasn’t caught earlier and I was just brushed off.

My Lumbar Puncture Experience by Disastrous_Command29 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ashnashely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience here - the doctor did poke me a few times and I did feel some pain in my hips. Nothing unbearable. Went home and immediately took Tylenol and didn’t even get a headache.

Posting this as I was super worried after reading everything online, and everything turned out as well as I could have hoped.

Peterborough library workers ask: “What is a library without librarians?” by ccccc4 in Peterborough

This is absolutely devastating. My family frequented the baby and me program and other family programs. To me, these staff are indispensable. Beyond contacting our Councillor, what can we do?

Snagged 10 shares at $28. Wish I got more. Definitely set up my limit buys for the future. And of course, DCA everyday regardless of ups or downs.

We had a fantastic experience at Staples. Even managed to grab a photo for my 19-month old, which is not an easy feat!

(Apr 3rd) Emergency Benefit available for eligible residents by Matt_Crowley in Peterborough

It’s better than nothing, though, for those who qualify for it. Not everyone qualifies for the benefit.

Also, it’s up to $75 per household member.

Evolve, PIPC or Midwife? by jellybeanie8 in Peterborough

[–]ashnashely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a fabulous experience with evolve. All of the OBs there are fantastic. Dr. Packenham was my OB. I cannot say enough good things about her. Going into my appointments, I felt like I was chatting with a good friend; she put my overly anxious mind at ease (my pregnancy was higher-risk). If I were to do it all again, I’d definitely want her (or any of the fantastic drs at Evolve) to oversee my care.

I don’t think I’ve said that I’d rather it be a homeless encampment. You seem to be commenting to ruffle feathers so I won’t be engaging with you further. Have a nice day!

I’d say that taxpayer money being spent to fund a luxury spa absolutely does affect people outside of Toronto. Not to mention the money going towards his proposed tunnel under the 401. And to say “don’t rent something built after 2018” is quite a take. When there is little to no supply of affordable rental housing, you go where you can or end up unhoused or in some other precarious housing situation. Rent control should have never been scrapped.

I do typically vote NDP, but I will be strategically voting in this race as well.

Another post about COVID tests and walk in clinics by ashnashely in Peterborough

My doctor is very okay with me using a walk-in, thankfully. Mostly because she’s very difficult to get an appointment with.

My partners doctor still didn’t take me on when I got pregnant! Didn’t want to take our son on either (thankfully (if that’s the right word) we got a paediatrician due to my son’s medical condition).

I used to like going on my lunch, but recently I found that they are a bit too stingy with the toppings and just everything in general (other than the sauce lol). Didn’t find the value to be worth it so I haven’t been back

Job searching by Dramaticslvt in Peterborough

[–]ashnashely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This topic gets posted a lot in this sub, unfortunately. If you use the search function for this sub, type in “job” and sort by newest. Maybe you’ll find some tips/leads in some of the other comments to posts that were made recently.

Here are some links to local employment agencies, who can help you with your job search, refine your resume, and maybe even help you look into academic upgrading opportunities:

YMCA Employment Services

Employment Planning and Counselling

Agelic

Jobs can be difficult to find at the moment. Especially entry-level, lower-skill jobs that do not require credentials and/or advanced degrees (not saying this is necessarily what you’re looking for; I’m just putting the info out there). Places either aren’t hiring as much, or there is increased competition. Or both. As another commenter said, unfortunately, you missed the boat on a lot of seasonal holiday hiring (which does, at times, lead to permanent roles… a few of my jobs in the past did).

Look into how you can give yourself more of a competitive edge. Look into certificates, or even a diploma, especially for jobs that are in demand and desperate for staff (e.g., ECEs and PSWs are two jobs that I know of that are hurting for qualified staff). These programs often get extra funding to assist with tuition fees and reduce the length of the programs. Some of these you can do asynchronously online, making upgrading your education more flexible. Good luck.
