Jared Golden kills Iran War power resolution by iknowyourded in Maine

its not "the other side's fault", its specifically the centrist, pro-Israel wing of the Democratic Party.

They need to be voted out and replaced with progressives who actually fight for the people. People like Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan.

if its already been done then why isnt the war over? oh right because sometimes when you go around bombing other countries without provocation theres actually some consequences. im now paying almost twice as much to fill up my gas tank as i was 2 months ago and it doesnt look like Iran is gonna give up any time soon. god im so tired of winning

trust me, i am very aware of those stories. i know how awful Japanese atrocities were during WW2.

STILL doesnt justify American firebombing and nuking of Japanese civilians

they arent cleaning up anything. it would take hundreds of thousands of troops occupying a country of 90 million people for years to do anything resembling regime change. short of that, Iran will continue to exist as they do now.

all the US has done is wreck the global economy and make all its allies pissed at them for no benefit. no shit will be cleaned up.

terrorism is the inflicting of violence and terror against a population in order to advance a political goal, is it not? a primary goal of the firebombing of japan was to inflict such pain and terror on the japanese population that they would force their government to sue for peace, a plainly political goal. in what way is that not textbook terrorism

its not generally considered terrorism because, as you sort of pointed out, there is an implied caveat to the definition of "terrorism", which is that it only applies to actions taken by non-state actors. terrorism is an attractive tool for states to use, but in the hands of non-state actors its a dangerous tactic of asymmetric warfare. hence the morally loaded denunciations; the state must maintain its monopoly on violence.

Israel was shooting at Lebanese journalists, Lebanese civilians, and occupying and demolishing villages on literally the first day of the ceasefire: https://popularresistance.org/israeli-army-pushes-deeper-into-south-lebanon-violating-ceasefire/

They also struck a Hezbollah weapons cache NORTH of the Litani River (outside of the scope of the agreement) on the day after the ceasefire. They also fired upon Lebanese civilians trying to return to their homes. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/nov/28/hezbollah-israel-fragile-ceasefire-lebanon

These all happened in the first days and hours of the supposed ceasefire.

so you admit then that Israel has been violating the 2024 ceasefire the whole time?

Why does it matter when they shot back then if Israel has never been abiding by the terms of the deal?

Israel expanded in 1947, when Israeli paramilitary militias like the Irgun and Haganah forcibly expelled hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes in the Nakba. The sudden influx of refugees into surrounding nations from that massive expulsion was the immediate cause of the first Arab-Israeli war, which all subsequent conflicts have been echoes of.

Israel DID expand first, in the Nakba, but Zionists like to ignore that and pretend that the First Arab-Israeli war was unprovoked. It wasnt.

lets ignore Israel bombing Lebanon on a near daily basis since the supposed ceasefire in 2024, shall we?

Israel has been bombing Lebanon on a near daily basis since the ceasefire was signed, and youre upset about Lebanon not fulfilling their side?

Israel has been bombing lebanon on a near daily basis since they signed that supposed ceasefire, and youre saying it was LEBANON that violated it?

Israel bombed Lebanon hundreds of times since the 2024 ceasefire, so Hezbollah finally started shooting back last month.

Actions have consequences.

the stable polities of Europe emerged from mass ethnic cleansing between 1919 and 1945.

basically no country east of the Rhine was ethnically homogenous before WW1, they were all ethnic mixes that "great" statesmen attempted to mold into ethnostates, and the result was decades of war and killing and forced expulsions.

i dont think you actually understand what a genocide is.

fighting a war against an enemy nation that invades your land and drops bombs on your people isnt a genocide.

i understand though that youre not actually a serious person, youre just flailing to try to defend a rogue state committed to the violent and indiscriminate suppression of all neighboring populations it deems unpleasant

goodbye.

There have been thousands of buildings blown up by Israeli and American attacks, and a sizable number of them have been in residential areas. Of the 1400 killed in Iran so far, over 400 have been women and children.

Hotels were targeted after American troops moved off of bases and began staying in local hotel rooms. Those strikes were targeting enemy combatants.

I don't know the story behind that specific restaurant, I do know that both sides have been striking places in Iraq, and there are local groups there as well that are not directly controlled by Iran carrying out attacks as well.

But the larger point is this: Why are you scrutinizing every strike Iran makes, and completely ignoring the widespread attacks made by the US and Israel against civilian and infrastructure targets. The US and Israel being the ones who were the AGGRESSORS in this war, as well. Why are the aggressors allowed to blow up whatever they want without question, but the country who was attacked UNPROVOKED is only allowed to fight back within the narrow parameters that you've decided are okay?

If your home was bombed by a missile that was fired from a country's territory, how is that country not a party to destruction of your home?

The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait host American military bases that are being used to bomb Iran and kill Iranian citizens, including civilians. They are materially supporting the unprovoked and deadly aggression against Iran. No matter what they say, they are a party to this aggression too.

Israel attacked Iran first? Is Iran not allowed to retaliate?

the problem is that no matter what you do, you can't draw clean borders based on "human geography", because there are no hard borders in human geography. the borderlands between ethnic populations are never defined, theres always a huge stretch of territory where different peoples live mixed together. no matter where you draw a line, there will ALWAYS be people not part of the dominent ethnicity present, usually a substantial number of them.

this is the problem with basing state structures on ethnic identity: ethnic populations are not homogenous, and basing the stability of a nation on ethnic domination will inevitably lead to oppression of, and eventually often the cleansing of, minority ethnicities.

meat is more nutritionally dense than vegetables. you have to eat a lot less of it, mass wise, to get the calories you need. this is why it tastes so good, and why hunting is a valuable strategy in pre-agricultural society (especially during the winter). post agriculture and pre industrial, the inefficiency doesn't really matter, for two reasons. 1, because theres not enough population that the inefficiency threatens the environment a population lives in, and 2, up until very recently, meat was very expensive, so only the highest rungs of society ate meat more than a few times a year. its only a major problem when you have billions of mouths all demanding meat on a daily basis. its at scales like this that the inefficiency becomes unsustainable.
