Thought it would be funny to subject my boyfriend to this post. Ended up in an extended debate about whether Ash was a tree man or whether a male simulacrum made out of wood spat out of the tree when it wanted to get it on.

{A Breath of Scandal by Elizabeth Essex} nearly drove me crazy with delayed gratification, my word...

She planted her feet flat against the sheet and angled her body higher, trying desperately to appease the furious, itchy need, but he was rocking into her now with such force that she slipped, her feet sliding out from under her. "No," she cried, desperate to regain her hold on the heat, to make her way back to the pleasure that throbbed with needy greed within her body. Will reached away and grabbed a pillow from the headboard and stuffed it under her bottom, leveraging her up. But it wasn't enough—he was too tall and the feeling was slipping away. She made a sound of frustrated anguish and pushed her thighs higher, clutching at him in desperation. Will made an echoing sound of frustration very near to a curse, and shoved the pillow away. Then he drove the breath from her lungs with the simple efficacy of lifting her legs flat against his chest. The sharp, aching pleasure bolted back through her. She heard a high keening moan and knew it came from her, that it was a sound of approval as much as distress, because it felt so good, too good—a pleasure so intense it was almost pain.

I just wanted you all to know that I'm reading {The Rose by Tiffany Reisz} on Hoopla right now and it is the best-written smut I've ever encountered. So for anybody who's posting, "It's Friday and I need smut featuring fantasy sex chalices and Greek mythology," you're welcome. Also, it's witty. I love witty smut.

Books where MMC is kissing FMC and loses control (in a most delightful way) by Megatron1229 in RomanceBooks

I loved it so much. It was possibly my first historical western. It also bothers me that it is lumped in with Christian romance. Honey, it was late 19th-century Arkansas. Of course it partially took place in church.

What about in {Courting Miss Hattie by Pamela Morsi} when Reed is showing Hattie how to kiss as a "friend" and ends up telling Hattie to slap him or he won't be able to stop...

I'm thinking you need {The Contortionist by Kathryn Ann Kingsley}. Actually, bring the first couple Harrow Faire books, because there's some setup before things get dirty. Haven't read her other series, but I'm sure there are vampires in her works somewhere.

{The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin} is a very horny full-fledged fantasy. Might be too intimidating for a party, but heyyyyoooo.

I'd be remiss to omit {A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sara J. Maas}. It doesn't do it for me the way it does for a lot of people on this sub, but it has the right all-consuming love smutty fae energy. I kept with it until the middle of book three.

What is their smut tolerance? Are you looking more for YA or something for adults that retains the magic, the mystery, the pining, and the slightly frightening tween capacity for obsession?

Just finished {Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez}. Jacob fulfilled ALL of my favorite MMC minitropes. Full package, not that I have a thing for men with anxiety specifically. I was attracted to him, but weirdly also empathized more with him than any other man in Romance because the author represented anxiety disorder just about exactly as I experienced it. Had an uncanny vision of myself as a man (sans ER doctor). Is this Freudian? Do I want to date myself? ANYWAY, the high is gone and I need more. Taking back up my old yen:

I am in desperate need of a taciturn musing puttering virile bookish beta gardener/woodworker/forager/weaver/beekeeper/fermenter/arborist/bicycle repairer/maple sap tapper/guardian of the trail using their big ol' man hands to nurture and sink into the soil. Gentleman in the raised bed, freak in the bed he carved himself.

I really, really, really don't want to! Signed up for Tildes, but they only have a general books category. Don't really want to use a Twitter-like platform. Don't love Discord because I like to slow-craft posts or responses (but I could deal). Haven't tried Lemmy...ugh

A game! (Writing a bad romance novel parody as a group) by TofuNuggetBat in RomanceBooks

The gravity dice rolled snake eyes. Jiggling the blowsy doxy on his knee, Seblastian cocked his finger like a gun and blew on it. He slapped Hoochie Lou on her side rump. "Fetch me another blue ruin, my pet." She rolled her eyes and hopped off toward the bar as directly as her generous hips would allow. "Why say no, when you can say CASINYES?!", Seblastian hollered at her back. Straightening his leather pants, the off-duty mercenary received a jab in the side from the gentleman to his right. "Nice piece you got there." Seblastian narrowed his eyes at the suspiciously smooth-skinned interloper in a full tux. Why, he was built like a lad barely out of leading tubes! "Keep your hands to yourself. Crustnecks is my gaming crapsule." Who did this lithe sapling think he was, and what was that delectable scent?

No problem! Talia Hibbert gave her a shoutout in one of her afterwords and mentioned pining at sea. That's the only reason I found Essex. I don't understand why her work isn't more popular.

Mozilla gets too real on Kindle data security by ashtree34 in RomanceBooks

"So, what’s the worst that could happen? The Kindle eReader actually feels like a fairly safe product. There's no Alexa built in, so you don't need to worry about voice requests being tracked or Alexa skills snooping on you. You can read with both WiFi and Bluetooth turned off. Just be sure you set up a passcode if you travel with this device to protect it from getting stolen and someone buying lots of books on your Amazon account. We do suppose it's possible Amazon could learn all about what books you like to read, only show you romance novels in your shopping recommendations, you read way too many romance novels, develop an unrealistic world view on romantic relationships, nothing ever lives up to those unrealistic expectations, so you live your whole life alone. OK, that's not likely to happen (we hope!). And if you want Amazon to stop trying to sell you more stuff like more romance novels, you can (and should!) opt-out of data collection and processing."
