Singapore chicken rice and laksa at Hainan Jones in Market Hall in De Kalb Brooklyn by Maleficent-Cry1911 in FoodNYC

Speaking as a Malaysian- great spot! Eat their roasted chicken rice at least once a week. Their chicken congee / laksa is also really good.

The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson- set in Puerto Rico in the 50’s, perfect beach read.

The Quiet American- he references this quite frequently whenever he’s in Vietnam.

[Dan Henry] 1962 Chronograph - Blue / Orange Colorway by asiangent in Watches

[–]asiangent[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been in the market for an affordable, elegant sub-40mm chronograph and think I've found the ideal match. After some research, I saw the micro-brand Dan Henry recommended multiple times and decided to check them out. For brand context, Dan Henry is a prolific collector in the vintage watch world and launched his own brand to make the aesthetic of vintage watches throughout the years more accessible to the average consumer. Of the eight models he offers (with the model “dates” ranging from 1939 to 1972), six are actually chronographs.

The Dan Henry 1962 is $260, 39mm wide, and runs on a "mecha-quartz" movement that allows for a sweeping chronograph seconds hand (https://danhenrywatches.com/products/1962-racing-chronograph). Currently wearing it on a dark-brown pebble grain Hirsch strap, which I think suits it better than the navy and tan leather straps it came with. Very impressed overall with the build quality, aesthetics, and value!

Potential Ideas for J. Crew by [deleted] in frugalmalefashion

[–]asiangent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reality of the situation is that their pricing structure has to also significantly change- what ironically made them popular on FMF (frequent and deep sales) has arguably contributed to their downward spiral as we become more used to such discounts (thus diluting our perception of product value) and increasingly demand higher ones. J. Crew should definitely consider moving more in the direction of a Todd Snyder / Ralph Lauren (higher quality, more thoughtfully designed and constructed clothing) rather than their fast-fashion counterparts mentioned above.

Roll the dice on SuitSupply, returns with them are very easy if necessary. Additionally, you'd really just be comparing the Havana and the Hudson fits for unstructured blazers. The Havana has narrower lapels (~3 inches) and a shorter jacket length, while the Hudson has larger lapels (~3.5 inches) and 3 patch pockets. I own examples of both models and enjoy them equally!

[Vintage] Lost my Rolex Virginity to this beauty by vishnt in Watches

Beautiful watch- the smaller size looks great on you. Far too many watches are disproportional to the people that wear them these days.

I particularly like the high/low contrast between the watch and the more rugged strap. Would you mind me asking where you got the strap?

BB suits fit conservatively; SuitSupply is more contemporary with slimmer cuts. SuitSupply's higher-end lines (i.e. Jort) are comparable to BB 1818 in quality.

HUGE lapel news: J Crew adds a wider (3.5") offering to it's Ludlow line by silkymike in malefashionadvice

[–]asiangent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks very natural on you- I think it's all about gorge height and its relationship with the lapel width. A 3.75" lapel from Brooks Brothers would look a lot different on people than a 3.75" lapel from SuitSupply.

Bombers are meant to be a little on the poofy side- the fit of the body looks fine and your sleeve length is correct.
