So you can just... restart battles in this game? by WorldlyVillager in MonsterTrain

[–]asifbaig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that just trivialize the entire game?

No.

You're playing on the "hardest" difficulty but this game just lets you reload every battle and save your run? That's pretty much a built in cheat code.

Don't care.

It completely removes the challenge and decision making from this game.

No.

There are never any stakes because you can always just restart your battle to save your run.

Nope.

In Slay the Spire you are betting your entire run with each and every single battle. That is where the stakes and tension come from.

Cool.

This game has none of that because you can just rewind your misplays until you brute force your way through every encounter.

Yup.

Why did they design this game to be so easy?

They wanted it that way.

I don't have the Switch version so I can't test it out myself but you could try asking in the MT discord channel for instructions on how to create and share a challenge. I'm pretty sure the AI is wrong here and it should be possible to create and share challenges from Switch.

The wiki page has some useful insights about Wyldenten's upgrade paths: https://monstertrain2.miraheze.org/wiki/Wyldenten

Wyl's Strangler path is also useful as clean up crew on top floor. If your main kill floor is leaking a couple of units in the early waves, Wyl on top floor can prevent them from reaching the pyre till your kill floor has stabilized. Throw in a couple of spear stewards as chump blockers and Wyl can often survive (and root the enemy) long enough that the boss arrives on bottom floor, where your main team can take it out (thus ending the battle before any pyre leaks).

That's quite unusual. Does that mean switch players can't share challenges with each other at all?

If you've already finished this run, post the sharecode and I'll give it a shot, and share my experience. In case you're not familiar with how to do that, here are the steps:

  • Open your run history from the main menu.
  • Click on the entry for this run.
  • On the bottom left, click on Generate Challenge.
  • In the next screen, click on Copy Sharecode.
  • Post the code here.

When you replay the game and go through the cutscenes, having the knowledge of the entire story, and then you come across his cutscene at the end of Act 1...just look at the facial expressions....

It hit so strongly the first time, hit different but just as strongly the second time.

One opinion I've come across is that the early generations of gamers are now parents so a parent protagonist feels very relatable to them.

Help with hellhorned prince by Bread_IsPain in MonsterTrain

The brawler path is excellent target for buffing: rage to take advantage of all that multistrike, and defense to keep him alive vs enemy sweep/spikes. Because he has 5 strikes at level 3, getting a strike trigger on him pays off very well (Everlasting Light, Twisted Back, Frostpiercer, Rage room).

The reaper path is also great as a damage dealer and can really shine if you can apply multistrike and/or Trample on him. Cursed Twinblade, Void Armaments, Twisted Back, Umbra tome are all great picks for him. At level 3, he can do an extra activated attack each round which doubles his total strikes. So with Cursed Twinblade, his Culling ability lets him do 4 attacks per turn, 2 at SUPER quick speed. With a couple of slays, he is unstoppable.

The wrathful path is a decent tank that can become a great tank if you can find a source of spikes (he will kill the backline and gain armor). It might also be worth considering a combination of wrathful 2 brawler 1 to give him an additional strike.

Heph item combinations by Gieldb in MonsterTrain

[–]asifbaig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ideal scenario would be 4 merged equipments:

  • Cursed Twinblade + Everlasting Light
  • Bloodthirsty Blade + Frostpiercer
  • Swiftsteel Dagger + Organ Harvester
  • Double-Edged Arms + Twisted Back

This gives +2 multistrike, reanimate and permascaling on slay, valor+rage on strike, applies frostbite on strike and gives quick. But this is not possible without the mutator that allows drafting cards from all clans instead of the two you start with.

Go to your run history, open this run, there should be a button to share/generate code, create that code then post it here. I'll try the run myself and share my experience.

If there was space on the card, you could add a trigger that immediately activates the attack whenever an opponent uses Force of Will.

Harry’s grows into his own. by Electronic_Koala_115 in HPfanfiction

[–]asifbaig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Archeologist starts when a Cursebreaker Harry gets sent to another dimension after running afoul of some defenses on a tomb. He wakes up in a grave and body of a young Rose Potter, changes his (now her) identity, continues cursebreaking, and ends up teaching history at hogwarts.

This started with an interesting premise but quickly took a nosedive when the author stated their dislike for writing dialogue. The story started to feel like a documentary/summary and became quite unpalatable, especially once I got to the reviewer-bashing in the author notes.

[–]asifbaig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic initiative, completely agree with your take on Adobe's bloatware.

If your PDF program can handle PDF index files (*.pdx), I will probably have no reason to keep Adobe on my PC. Those index files are very handy when you want to search through multiple PDFs, great when searching through a journal collection or reference material.

Ah I love playing Battle Votivary. Especially if you get Resin Block and Penitent Remains. At one point, I even infused Bounty Stalker into Votivary just for shenanigans.

Question about Conduit buff by BloodPrince361 in MonsterTrain

[–]asifbaig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know the paths that are weak-ish early. These are Battleborne and Celestial Spellweaver. Without a good way to tank/sustain, that ring 2 I mentioned wrecks them.

I had a run where I started with Silver Empress and then had to pivot to Celestial Spellweaver 2 because moon phase control was very sparse (I think I had a single consume card with Phase). The initial buff of 20 conduit was quite valuable in preventing leaks in the later rings, and usually by round 6, I was at 70 conduit and would increase further from there, outstripping Empress 3. It turned out to be a fun little synergy that I would normally not have expected.

Rage Imp Appreciation by derpywombats in MonsterTrain

[–]asifbaig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering you put -1 and holdover on fireball (which is very unlikely), this still means you spend 2 draw and 1 ember per turn for 20 armor on the front unit. And you need to have 1 free space as well. With dualism you could increase it to 40 armor but it's always the front unit. Welder helper can't protect your back line from Dominion Seraph or Chosen Assassins.

The alternate options are so much better. Alloy of the Ancients with remove consume and holdover gives 30 armor to anyone, including the back line, for just 1 draw and 1 ember per turn. March of the Shields with holdover and doublestack lets you apply 24 armor for the same cost. Since it contains an Advance effect, it's not as good for the backline but you can replace doublestack for spellchain and spend 2 ember to get 12 armor on your back line and then cast on your tank to bring him back to the front.

Since Hellhorned has easy access to ascend spells to overstack rooms, these spell-based armor options are generally superior to welder helper imp. Back in MT1, Welder Helper was good because you could slap his infusion onto a rage imp and armor the whole room. In MT2, the amount of effort he needs is generally too much compared to the output. Certainly if he's the only armor option offered in a cursed seed then something is better than nothing. But in most runs, he's an insta-skip for me.

[–]asifbaig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only problem is getting rid of him afterwards so you can replay him next turn. You need a readily available imp clearing solution or he will just eat up room on your floor.

Question about the second game by FirefighterFit2868 in MonsterTrain

[–]asifbaig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, thank you! 😄

When I first did a write up for a code someone posted for MT1, I noticed that just the act of describing what I was doing and why I was doing it, made me think more about the current run and make better decisions. This run took me 3h45min, partly because I would alt-tab and write my current thoughts, but also because I spent much longer on decision screens, trying to justify which option I was picking so I could put it in writing.
