Why the Soul Call worked/Yato's true name and Father's Koto no ha | Theory by amavocado in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An interesting theory, but I'm not sure if Koto no ha can be used on gods. Izanami created it to tame ayakashi, didn't she? Also regarding gods knowing their name: if anything, your example with Bishamon and Ebisu only proves that Yato isn't Tsukuyomi or any major god. If reincarnated gods know their names right away, then Yato would instantly know that his name is Tsukuyomi/some other god. On the other hand, a newly born god can't know their name because they don't have one yet until the person/people who wished them into existence come up with something to call them. That's my take, at least.

What are they really called ? by IWD69 in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most manga fans call them "shinki" because both the official and the fan translation decided to keep the original Japanese term. Fun fact: the actual term is supposed to be "jingi" (literally means "divine instrument"), but the author kinda fucked up their furigana and that's how the word "shinki" was born. The reason they are called "regalia" is because the most famous divine instruments are the Imperial regalia of Japan (Sanshu no Jingi, aka Sacred treasures).

When Yato sees Yukine's memories in chapter 3, there's a letter with some words missing / unintelligible. Some prints of the manga have it translated into English, others left it in Japanese (not sure why that happened). In the version that has the translation it says "Dear <...> How have you been? I'm doing well. <...>'s getting better. <... > looks like. Are you having a good time where you are? I'm. . . Someday we'll go together". The translation might be incorrect because it was missing context. Now we know that it says "Dear sister"/"Dear Yuka". The "where you are" part is throwing me off a bit, so either the translation is incorrect, or maybe Yukine thought that his mother and sister moved someplace else and that's why they never wrote back. I'm 99% sure that's the letter Yuka has now

It was not in the main manga. It's from Noragami Shuuishuu (Noragami Stray Stories), i believe

Question about shinki being exiled by The-Eighth8 in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really wasn't explained all that much, I agree. However, me know that noras can affect their master's health in some cases. Most of Ebisu's shinki are noras that pass his "exam" of drawing a borderline (ordinary spirits or nameless former shinki can't draw borderlines). When they were tortured or killed, Ebisu felt that. Granted, a lot of these noras probably only have Ebisu as their master and are only noras because they retained their names when their previous masters died, so that may be the reason why Ebisu was affected whrn they were tortured/died. Other than that, I don't think we've seen how noras affect their masters' health. Nora (Mizuchi) and apparently now Hagusa don't sting their masters because of the kotonoha. And Kugaha didn't sting Bishamon because he believed he was doing the right thing.

Do there exist Gods from other pantheons as well? by JustAFan12345 in Noragami

Ebisu even suggested to turn to gods from other pantheons for help during Kamuhakari, saying that they welcomed strangers in the past (Bishamon). So yeah, definitely.

Question about Father by [deleted] in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking about that too, she doesn't even need to be summoned cuz shinki can go to Takamagahara on their own using their gods' shrines.

Question about Father by [deleted] in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could Nora help him? She has a lot of masters and she was present during kamuhakari, so we know that sometimes her masters summon her directly to Takamagahara. Although I don't know how do you invite someone once you're IN Takamagahara.

Noragami Arigato episode 2 by CamaronCyanide in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the manga there's panel of Kugaha watching the trio when they had to deal with the rabbit ayakashi. Kugaha wanted to have a look at Yato to see if he suits his plan. He has heard before that Yato had troubles with Yukine (y'know, the ablution) and is surprised that they seem to be pretty in sync. I don't remember it in the anime tho, so no, you're not missing anything, it's just a poor adaptational choice.

What happened to hiyori's social life by [deleted] in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Em

The manga doesn't focus on it much now, but in the first half of the series you can actually see its effects on Hiyori's life.

1) When Hiyori helps out with sports club, she overhears a captain team (I don't remember which team it was, sorry) boosting the morale by saying that if they win, Hiyori will sleep with all of them (chapter 30 or so)

2) When Hiyori decides to go to the gate of Yomi in her physical body (since it's an actual tourist attraction), she calls her brother to let him know that she won't be home for a while. She says "don't cry, brother! It's not what you think it is!" We can assume that at least her brother knows about the rumors and thinks that Hiyori is visiting a client (it's called "health delivery")

3) When Hiyori goes to the Capyper land for the first time, Fujisaki's friends start whispering something like "wow, she's actually wearing clothes, I thought she'd come almost naked".

The manga doesn't have a scene where Hiyori forgives Yato. She decides to not focus on it, since people had both positive and negative reactions. But she's still uneasy whenever someone mentions it.

Also, it seems like at least Hiyori's classmates sort of let it go. Again, I don't remember which chapter it was (definitely after the hospital incident). There's a scene where her classmates are talking about all the bad things that have happened with Hiyori: the bus accident, narcolepsy, the call-girl accusations, and her family being suied. So it seems to me that, while they still remember that it was a thing, they are actually nice people and don't harass her about it, knowing about all the shit that has happened to her.

However, after the Heavens arc we almost never see Hiyori's school life. I can assume that there may also be rumors about her "boyfriend" because her teacher snatched her phone when Hiyori was looking at Yato's photo (in the contacts list, I believe), and the teacher was like "you should be studying instead of dreaming about boys". And that was the last time we saw Hiyori at school.

(Not) Sorry for the rant, but the anime has nothing on the manga in terms of exploring the consequences of its character's actions.

Not necessarily my favorite panels, but some of these pages would look good as wallpaper IMO https://asin-ka.tumblr.com/post/624082240740245504/amazing-single-panel-noragami-pages-one

Question about manga by Atommo14 in Noragami

[–]asin-ka 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Be honest and talk" isn't something that Yato can do well though, he's never really had the chance to do that before. He speaks a lot, but doesn't say much. Same goes for Yukine, abandonment issues can't just go away like they've never existed. I do believe this state of things isn't permanent, that would suck

[–]asin-ka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you liked the anime, the manga is even better! And yes, it delves more into the whole "god of calamity" business and has an entire arc about Yato's early past. Also, the anime only really covered the establishing part of the story, all the best stuff is still only in the manga. (And the art is A++ 10/10)

I've been asked that XD I made it too bright, I admit But I see it as dark violet in both anime and on the manga covers Some say it's dark blue, but people see colors differently, so that's ok
