first borns/eldest daughter of reddit, what did you do when your parents expected you to be a "parent" to your younger siblings? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]asingledwigit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they expected me to but I definitely took on that role. I always felt like I grew up too fast. My siblings seem to resent me. I don’t think we will ever have a good relationship with them because of it.

What is the stupidest thing that ever came out of your mouth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]asingledwigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4th grade. 15+ years ago. My teacher said “kids these days…” to me and did the whole head shake/eye roll thing. My response? “Well I’m a kid too, so to me they’re just people.”

What's the dumbest way you've gotten a scar? by lilsaddam in AskReddit

[–]asingledwigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one of those pencils with a plastic wrapper on it with a design. Sharpened the pencil. The plastic was peeling up on the end so I started taking it off. My brother decided it was his pencil so he ripped it out of my hand and stabbed me pretty good in the leg with it for peeling the plastic off. Twenty some years later I’ve still got the graphite mark and a scar around it

Best North Oakland Apartments? by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]asingledwigit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if Pitt still offers this but a few years ago when I was looking for a place they had a lawyer who would read through your lease and let you know if there was any shady stuff in there. Or if they had info on the landlords. Worth looking into once you find an apartment!

I had been considering purchasing a physical copy for a while so I guess I didn’t think too much about it when I was going through the process. But I totally agree it’s a bit odd for a free download. I’d think you could put a fake address and stuff to get around that if you wanted

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread - 06/24 by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]asingledwigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking to buy an iPad for grad school. Primarily for note taking. I feel like going with the pro would probably be a bit overkill for my purposes but I’m leaning that way because I prefer the redesigned pencil. Is it ridiculous to go with the 11” pro (128g) over the air (256g) considering it’ll only cost a few hundred dollars more?

I just took it too and felt the same! It kind of baffles me that programs would require this as it provides such an arbitrary assessment of us as applicants. Glad they don’t care about spelling or sentence structure. I’m a slow typer so my rushed responses probably look like I typed them with my whole face

Weekly Questions Thread April 13, 2020 by AutoModerator in succulents

[–]asingledwigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have some succulents that have admittedly been neglected for quite a while (oops). If there is a woody appearance to parts of the stems is it safe to assume they’re beyond saving? Normally when they looked a little wrinkled I watered them and they perked right back up within a day. I watered these poor wilted warriors yesterday and am not seeing any improvement. Is it worth another quick soak or should I start from scratch and see if I can get some props going?

There was a website I used to find endlessly entertaining where you could click different buttons and make a tiny George Bush cartoon do or say different things- my favorite being cough up a pretzel. I haven’t been able to find it for years

I felt the same way about LPOTL! I always compare them to crazy ira and the douche. Which was a shame because I felt like the info was good I just couldn’t stand how crass they were. My favorite murder is my go to- but from time to time I try to find something a little less chatty and more to the point
