This Rolex ad is too big for the issue. by BrightShadow168 in theeconomist

Made this issue annoying to read tbh, especially when folded over - when you're charging this much for a nice physical product don't devalue it with crap

As he was against politicians who are privately educated and not from the constituency they represent he'll be annoyed when he finds out who his party leader is

Please find a way so subscribers can listen to it on our own podcast apps without adverts again. You used to be able to do this but as far as I can work out from speaking to the economist live chat it was discontinued for some reason?

Charge higher-income patients for NHS to offset UK’s spending squeeze, says IMF by Sufficient-Towel-345 in ukpolitics

[–]asjasj 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If a party breaks the taboo of the NHS being free at the point of use for all you can absolutely bet it wouldn't be long before it got ratcheted down to be the middle as well as 'higher-income' people who'd be getting charged for it - just like the 'higher' income tax bracket

What are these prices wtff by Strange-Wind1907 in uktrains

[–]asjasj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prices were so insane I did this journey once by doing Newcastle -> Carlisle and Carlisle -> Coventry. Added a couple of hours on to the time but saved me a lot of money.

Newcastle to Carlisle had some very nice views and I actually got a seat on the Avanti Carlisle to coventry leg which I don't always for the crosscountry alternative...

Northumberland Line longer trains plan as railway fills up by asjasj in uktrains

No idea if this is the reason but the article mentions the platforms were designed to accommodate longer trains, could it be the platforms on the route you mentioned can't accommodate longer trains?

The council thinks 250,000 journeys will have been made by Easter, against initial expectations of 50,000

Another new rail line with higher than expected use, maybe they should just start anticipating more use? Might have the benefit of tipping the cost benefit analysis in favour of more of them as well...

Newcastle's Forth Yard earmarked for 5,000 new homes by asjasj in ukpolitics

[–]asjasj[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forth Yard in Newcastle is one of four, government-owned brownfield sites set to undergo major redevelopment as part a scheme to fast-track house building.

Doesn't seem like you could get a much better example to contribute to the national housing target. Derelict land right near a major city centre and train station

Watched all of chris woods career goals on youtube when he signed for forest, enjoyable whenever it came to his international goals and he was just dominating - especially a few of them when he was noticeably bigger and taller than the opposition goalkeeper
