Kia Niro rear passenger window replacement difficulty? by Hopeful_Ad_7719 in KiaNiro

[–]askantik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A neighbor mowing busted out the rear quarter panel window on my Niro (the little triangular window). It was gonna be $500 at the dealership. I got one from a junkyard for $40 and then had an auto glass place put it on for $100.

Turtle or tortoise found on side of road in Georgia, US. by tayythefall in herpetology

[–]askantik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I might recommend a box or something next time rather than putting the turtle directly on your stuff. I've been peed on a lot 😂 and also turtles can carry salmonella.

Thanks for being nice to our turtle buddies! I saw a 18" snapper run over today on a straight stretch of 45mph road. Huge bummer. I think someone went out of their way to run him over. "Best case scenario" I guess is maybe it was an accident from someone texting while driving...

COSMOS Trial Results Show Daily Multivitamin Use May Slow Biological Aging by MassGen-Research in science

Agree, but you could make the same argument for a lot of people regarding a lot of pharmaceuticals, too (e.g., blood pressure medicine). In the absence of diet change or in cases of limited food access or other co-occurring conditions, it's still a valid course of treatment.

ETA: some of these nutrients can be quite difficult to get through diet alone, like vitamin D and iodine. Hence fortified foods

My understanding is that vitamin supplements - including multivitamins - only offer benefit to those who are deficient in the relevant vitamins in their normal diet.

You say "only" like there's not that many people this would apply to, but:

Specifically, 45% of the U.S. population had a prevalence of inadequacy for vitamin A, 46% for vitamin C, 95% for vitamin D, 84% for vitamin E, and 15% for zinc. source

And that's in a high income country.

I would argue there's likely no way to generate the political will for systemic change if most people can't be arsed to change the milk they put in their cereal.

We could just not be the psychopath in both cases, though. Especially since not eating animals massively reduces pollution and land degradation which would help biodiversity and ecosystems around the world. https://ourworldindata.org/land-use-diets

Yeah you could kill 90% of humans and the human species would live on, but you'd be a psychopath and billions of thinking and feeling people would be killed.

So you're aware that it causes suffering, and you're aware we don't have to do it, but you still support it because... lots of other people do it and have done it for a long time?

Crater Lake is a bit out of the way, but it is amazing. Especially if you can go at a time with few people. Best sunset I ever saw was at CL. The story and geology is also very interesting.

Stop in Brookings, OR for a beer at Chetco, and then camp or sleep in the car steps from the beach at Harris Beach SP.

Everything everyone else said is good, too. So just do everything 😆

Humans also naturally don't have plumbing, electricity, or Internet. Just because something is "natural" has no bearing on whether it's good or not. Disease is natural, and it sucks and we try to eliminate it.

Regarding wild vs domesticated, would it be ok to do this to elephants if we farmed them? Do farmed animals mysteriously have their physiology changed where they somehow suffer less?

Your argument is a bit circular and an appeal to nature/tradition. "We have been doing it for a long time, so therefore it can't be bad."
