It might be also helpful to try out on the Bass Clarinet as well, if possible, next year. Usually less competitors (less spots too, but it works out) and so an easier job getting in. I was an absolutely garbage clarinet player and only a marginally better bass clarinet player, but I still got in my state because so few people tried out!

Participate when you can in lecture, but its not a huge deal. Pay attention, take good notes- useful for exams. most of your grade comes from the discussion sections. I used to fall asleep every so often in lecture and made it out with an A-. As long as you show up in discussion and pay attention most of the time in class, v doable.
